Great idea using the grill to heat the ring gear, no doubt it heats more evenly than a torch. What a clever guy!!

Another way to remove the old gear is to take a chisel and split the gear between two teeth. When you use the grill to heat the new one , you have the added benefit of being able to cook lunch at the same time.

Tried it on the grill and it was not hot enough. (Grill too small) I did make a bed of coals in my fire pit and that worked perfectly.
