It would be nice if more cadets became private pilots. This using free flying for hours and not certify a 16nyear old as a private pilot because some senior is flying has to stop. I wonder why you are not putting a penguin program with the Pipistrel Alfa Electro at $5 a fight hour. It cost your U S AIRFORCE EIGHTY THOUSAND US DOLLARS to make one private pilot.Cancel culture from Maxwell AFB exists. I still do not know one cadet has to go to four different airports to qualify FAR part 20. Move Headquarters to the Air Force Academy if you are so AIR FORCE as Senator Tubbeerville is definitely very anti Military.

@robertbetancourt1386 You're confused. It's not CAP's tasking or responsibility to completely train and certify pilots; either cadet or senior. The flights involving cadets is a small part of their total training and experience as a cadet. Senior members fly to accomplish the missions of CAP; SAR, support the cadet program, etc. That being said, there are senior member pilots who try to game the organization and fly as much as possible, including getting or staying current, on CAP's dime. That is also wrong. Showing up at a practice mission, then taking a currency checkride on mission dollars so you can be qualified to fly the mission is *leeching.* If you can't show up at a practice or mission already current, *ready to accomplish the mission* from the time you set foot there, don't bother to show up. Accomplish or maintain your currency on your own **** dime! Moving headquarters to the AF Academy is unnecessary, and not a good business decision. The cost of living and operating is much higher there than their current location. Second, it appears that you're attempting to give disproportionate weight to *one* of the *three* missions of CAP. The cadet program is only one part of their missions. There is no operational advantage to moving there.

I commented on Hoover's video but will say again, your level of professionalism is off the charts! If I were a CFI I would require all my students to watch your videos. I'm of the opinion that cameras can be a distraction in aircraft but in your case I think it is the opposite. The way your verbalize everything for us viewers is as if you were our CFI and giving us instructions shows that you are on top of everything and not distracted at all. Your communications skills and articulation are excellent as well. I've heard so many commercial pilots mumble when communicating with ATC you can barely understand what they are saying. And the fact that you are so easy on the eyes is an added bonus! 😍😄

Yep, Hoover did a great review of your in-flight emergency. I've watched quite a few KZbin pilots, and you are the best by far! I love how every flight is a pretty detailed training flight for your viewers with CHECKLISTS, PLANE STATUS CHECKS, FUEL TANK SWAPS, RADIO CALLS, ETC. You explain EVERYTHING, and you know 100% how to operate every switch & every piece of gear, and how to talk & listen fast on the radio! That's the most intimidating thing to being a private pilot IMOP. I love aviation and was a solo hang glider pilot in my younger days! Life is good!

I work in High Tech industry and we need to be this detailed also, as we work with very dangerous gasses, liquids, voltages and mechanical devices, very intricate and dangerous movements. Things can go South real fast and at a level no other industry knows. When thing do go wrong it's every bit an investigation like NTSB does perhaps a few steps deeper too. We scour everything to the locate the "ROOT Cause" of any excursion issue. This verbal expressions a lot like we do in our documentation preview or preflight we sometime use that terminology. Explanations we use in something called "PTP" Pre task Planning". To make sure all personnel are aware and on the same page. Before any activity ensues. It's very good to see this here as a discipline. Included in out daily pre work routines sign off on a Walk around and survey the area check list, we will be in, and impact on others around us, every day! It IS a matter of survival and we take it as seriously as Kay here does. Never once needed to apologize for safety, not once ever! We employ LOTO-lock out tag out PPE - personal protection equipment, safety harness that are Up to date inspection conditions, calibrated tools etc! It's the major leagues!

4:22 This is annoying on Vatsim too. You ask them to verify if they meant what they didn't say, so then they think you aren't paying attention. For example, on vatsim when flying airliners, I always use 346, and I've been called 306 and 436 so I double check it was for me and then they get annoyed with me even though they said it wrong

My wife and I really enjoy your videos. I read your book and enjoyed it. I’ve had my channel for 8 years and haven’t done much with it. To be fair to myself, I have been busy being a full time flight instructor with my own one-man one-airplane flight school. I was an airline pilot very briefly (less than a year) back in 2018. But I missed instructing in my own plane and working for myself and my students. I also missed having enough money to eat and pay bills. (Regionals didn’t pay much in 2018.) and I missed my wife and kids. What you’re doing with your channel is similar to what I want to do with mine except I would probably mostly do it VFR. It’s been so long since I flew just for the fun of it I think ive forgotten how. ( to fly for fun). I enjoy watching your videos because you go where you want, when and if you want to go. I want to do that too.

Happens all the time.... I had one years ago over July 4th weekend, weather was forcast to be great all weekend long so everybody with an airplane flew someplace for the weekend. The weekend was now over, called for WX and it turns out there was smoke coming from Canada and visibilities in the NE were about 3 miles, so I filed IFR but there were a lot of VFR pilots that had no business being out flying that day. Coming into my home airport I was being vectored for the approach and ATC calls out "Arrow 1234, traffic 10 o'clock same altitude" I responded negative contact, ATC called the traffic out one more time, again negative contact, next ATC goes "Arrow 1234 turn right NOW.... heading xxx" I never saw the other aircraft and ATC simply vectored me around for the approach again. This was before the days of ADS-B so I didn't have the luxury of looking at a tablet or other equipment to find him.

Always interesting & entertaining to be onboard with you. You maintain great commentary on your flight. Being a Round Rock, TX resident for over 5 years, the name Rockdale is familiar. Sorry they screwed up your lunch plans. Currently we live in Ashburn, VA, 2 Metro stops from Dulles. That Southern Airways single engine prop that emergency landed on the highway a couple of months ago miraculously did so just 1.5 miles from where we live. You can see the chatter marks from his propeller on the guardrail where he came to a stop. Good luck on choosing your next plane. Love to see you in a King Air! Safe flying!

I have been a pilot since around '98 but am not current, I was in training for IFR but didn't finish. You are encouraging me to start again, my wife is thinking there goes the money but I think it'd be fun. I think I am going to start the book work and ground school for IFR and see where that goes. This is why I usually ride my bicycle to Rockdale, via Granger, Hare and Apache Pass. If the food store is closed, you can get to another by bike in 10 minutes :) go back via Bartlett, Jarrell and Andice. About 125 miles. Ok, not quite the same as flying there from Sugar Land, but a bike still would have been helpful in your predicament, I think ;)

I enjoyed your video a lot. I have a lot of time in Cherokee and am in flying club that has three of them at Bergstrom. I have two quibbles with what would it otherwise have really nice and fun flight. I couldn’t help but notice that you taxi with the mixture full. We prohibit that in our flying club, because it almost guarantees fouled, spark plugs. We recommend the Mike Bush taxi technique of pulling that mixture all the way back until the engine is about to die and then richening ever so slightly. This guarantees that you won’t takeoff with a lien mixture because pushing the throttle board in this configuration, just kills the engine. I know a lot of flight schools want their students to taxi around full Rich because they’re afraid of leaning the engines and then having the student forget to richen it back up at the appropriate time. But spark plugs aren’t cheap, and it would suck to have fouled plugs at a little airport like Rockdale. I will compliment you on your fuel tank switch technique. You’re doing it exactly right and setting a good example, the key thing to watch in a tank switch is the fuel pressure which you explicitly did. The second quibble is about technique. When we say “technique” in Aviation, we mean optional things that are just suggested practices. So you’re not doing it wrong, but to my ear you are using more words than necessary. I’ll give you two examples of things that don’t quite ring true to me. When you change frequencies between ATC units There is no need for filler words like ”with you”, “checking in”, or ‘aaaaaaaa”. My suggestion is “Center, Warrior 8165C, 5000 feet”. I’ll say“Hello Center….” If they are not real busy. In a VFR pattern at an uncontrolled airport nobody cares about your full call sign . I just say “Hooterville, Warrior 65C left downwind 18 Hooterville. I am of the school that says brevity is the soul of wit. Let me emphasize that these are quibbles. Your flight was handled superbly, and was very enjoyable to watch. Keep up the good work keep the dirty side down.

And what I also noticed is that on the unicom frequency 122.9 you did not just call your tailnumber and position, but immediately you tried to get in contact with other traffic, and that worked all fine, just as Dan Gryder said on his "probable cause" channel! So you had it all planned so good, except for that Subway...

One of my SOPs is to monitor the CTAF for my nontowered destination while still talking to approach so I can hear what’s going on there. If that other pilot was making standard traffic calls, the mystery of what they were doing would have been solved long before your modified “any traffic please advise” request. The enhanced situational awareness makes things so much less hectic. Imagine the revised cancellation dialog with ATC when you can reply, “I know what they are doing.” Once (captured on a video) my approach clearance was delayed because of an IFR departure. I knew when they were in the air before ATC.

Kay, when I upgraded from my 180, I chose to buy a G model bonanza. It had the combination of room for my large carcass (6’5””-250lbs), speed…150 knots and fuel economy. I flight planned for 150 kts. And 12 gph. And it never let me down. A good IFR platform.

I hated rough flying. I flew fire patrol for the Tx Forestry Service out of Nacogdoches in the mid 60's and it was always rough and we had to maintain 3-5000 ft. Not below, not above. For eight hours. Good flight. Love your knowledge and confidence.

I’ve been to HH Coffield a couple of times. Once as a safe haven to let a squall line pass by and the next was a dead stick landing after the oil pressure gauge line broke on my Cessna 182. The good news was there was no one to get in my way, the bad news was there were no people around to offer assistance. Thank goodness for cell phones.

You are a delightful young lady. Excellent communications, phraseology and procedures. Seem to be very comfortable with your aircraft and avionics . In VFR conditions you need to quit talking to the camera and instead scan for traffic. I found it alarming how much time you spent with your head in the cockpit. Nothing will spoil your day, and at least one other pilot's, faster than a mid-air collision. I was a DPE for 25 years. It was well known in the area if you were going to take your checkride with me, you had better spend the overwhelming amount of time available looking out of the aircraft using good scanning technique. This old man found your video thoroughly delightful! The enjoyment you get from aviation is very apparent. It gives me the warm fuzzies when I see the up and coming crop of young pilots. I wish you well. Please be careful. Especially around non-towered airports.

Try flying here in the LA basin. We are dodging planes all of the time. That controller on flight following was sure nice. Lucky you only had one pilot to talk to at the non-towered. We usually have about 5 airplanes in the pattern or around the non-towered airport by the delta towered airport that I fly out of. Both are under the charlie shelf.

I love watching your videos. You look as comfortable behind the controls of that aircraft as most people do behind the controls of a car, just like you would look driving down a bumpy gravel road in a big truck.

Try rudder only to smooth out the bumps. Steering wheel, adverse yaw, sends nose wrong way before right way and thus makes the gust spread wing level problem worse. The spring connection between aileron and rudder in the Cherokee will move the yoke a bit, but rudder only is much smoother. Hand flying allows on course thermalling. Pitch up in updraft for more time in it, pitch down in down draft to go through quicker for net gain in both altitude and ground speed. Back when we drew a line on a paper sectional, we did not arrive at an unknown. Yes, compute maps have the information but the constant location without looking puts pilots to sleep. IFR, and especially IMC, means guaranteed safe airspeed, altitude, and procedural tract with ATC help. The uncontrolled field, on the other hand, means the tactical situation is always fluid. Horizontal space available may be limited, various types of operations, slope, dogleg ingress or egress, one way in and down drainage out, lots of variables. Expect the unexpected. For short field, the Cherokee will fly quite well much slower than 90 with dynamic power to nail glide angle and rate of descent. We practice slow flight at altitude to get the feel of power/pitch, which can be used effectively on the short field approach, especially coming into ground effect where Vso (an out of ground effect number) has no relevance. Good job and IFR is the safest way to fly. This old crop duster is just messing with you a bit.

Spring interconnect means y'all, but spring or human is a bit behind. Step on the ball is too late. Unless we lead rudder, there is no initial coordination and the nose yaws the wrong way. However, dynamic proactive rudder to bracket and thus nail a target will not allow turn. If no turn can happen, we nail the centerline with wings level or we fly in gusts with the wing going back to level automatically with the nose (between our toes) staying exactly on the target. Dynamic proactive is a bit busy on XC, but just bringing the nose back up with rudder will make moderate turbulence light turbulence. The dihedral in low wing airplanes produce a nice wiggle more than jarring bump so keeping the nose going exactly to target with rudder only works well in rough air. Works in Cessnas as well, but no help with the bump.@@brian9man499
