I’m a 737 pilot, and has nothing to do with the ATR. But your content, has made me very interested in the ATR. Seems like a very pilots’-airplane. Keep the videos coming. Enjoying every single one of them.

Here is a new ATR hack people don't know about - Radar scans are faster for both pilots when the ND range is same for both rather than 2 different ranges for each pilot. when ND range is set same range for both pilots, the scan will show from left to right and right to left. but if set in different ranges the scan for one pilot is from left to right and other pilot is from right to left.

@@FlywithMagnar is it true? I´m not expert but it would make sense on the electronics point of view: clockwise scans would be set to the pilot range/gain and the counterclockwise would be set to the other settings.

A usual a goldmine of tips for the ATR . Thank you so much captain. As a matter of fact I was scrolling thru your past videos (without finding it) to find the tilt angle of the weather radar you talked about depending on the alt/FL. I will waiting for the 2 last ones 🙏🛩 Have a wonderful day

Thank you so much! I've been wondering about the reason for the difference in cruise power. When I'm flying the 72, I keep it on climb power until we get close to our cruise speed. But in the 42, I switch to cruise power immediately on leveling off. It just helps accelerate slightly faster.

Hello sir. First of all, I want to say Thank you for sharing a lot of information about ATR Aircraft. My name is Tony, and also I am ATR Pilot. I would like to to inform you that have another hack for ATR 600. That is the weather radar. If you put the both ND on the same range between Capt and FO, the weather radar will scanning for 2 Ways to the left and right. But, if you put the both ND on the difference Range between Capt and FO, the weather radar will scanning only 1 way.

I am not a pilot, only an aviation enthusiast and I always find your videos very informative 👌. I have a question: when you fly level - with a flight path vector 0 - and you change the pitch a little bit for instance two degrees up or down, you do this by moving the stabilisers. Am I right? And when you change the pitch, will the plane automatically change it's rate of climb from 0 to positive or negative? When you want it to stay on a level flight path while changing the pitch, what must you do to counteract a change in flight path? Will it go automatically or do the pilots have to take this action? Is there any reason to opt for a specific pitch attitude, or to change it?

Pitch is dependent on speed, or more precisely, angle of attack. If I drop my speed, the nose will come up (pitch increases) to maintain level.
@FlywithMagnar

Question 1: We use the elevator to change the pitch of the aircraft (the stabilizer doesn't move.) Question 2: Yes, when we change the pitch, the aircraft will change its rate of climb or descent. Question 3: There are two ways to change pitch while maintaining altitude: Change the speed, or change the flaps setting. If you reduce your speed, you must increase the pitch to maintan lift, and vise versa. Extending the flaps will usually cause a pitch up moment.

Dear Magnar, I saw a lot of KZbin regarding the accidents of TransAsia’s ATRs. If you are the pilot PIC, what will you do to save the aircraft? The accident in Pinghu, even though the runway vision is under 1600ft minima at 300 ft, with the correct bearings and radio signals, if the aircraft can maintain 3 degrees descending, it is hard to crash the plane. The second accident that hit the river in Taipei, if one engine failed, what is the best option for a pilot to regain enough power to keep the lift and properly turnaround to land the aircraft?

Hi. Both accidents happened because the captain did not follow standard procedures. The first accident happened after the captain deliberately descended below operative minima. If you don't have the runway or approach lights in sight when you reach minima, you must go around. The second accident happened because the crew shut down the good engine. They did not communicate with each other and did not identify the failed engine. After the second accident, the ATR fleet was grounded. All captains had to go through interviews and simulator evaluation. Some of them did not pass because they could not perform emergency procedures like engine failure or engine fire. They were given "early retirement." kzbin.info/www/bejne/d6GkkImrjcmZmMU

I was wondering why the ATR 42 augmented the torque when power is set to cruise, it's actually quite interesting!

Hei Magnar. Takk :)
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 11 ай бұрын
Det er en bug. Systemene går offline fordi NP går under 70% når power er redusert til ground idle. Dette skjer ikke i flyet. Forhåpentligvis vil dette bli korrigert ved neste oppdatering.

Hello Magnar, Question in ATR Sim, I was flying route & accidently clicked "Gust Lock" lever while throttle in low during a decent in flight and i wasnt able to disengage gust lock & crashed plane. A) what extra steps must be done to disengage gust lock in flight? B) or maybe msfs ATR has bug & wont disengage in flight? Help, lol
@FlywithMagnar
@FlywithMagnar 11 ай бұрын
Hi. This must be a snag in MSF. In the real aircraft , the gust lock cannot be engaged in flight for two reasons: The power levers must be in ground idle (inhibited in flight), and the aircraft must be on the ground (landing gear struts compressed.)
@Mikinct
@Mikinct 11 ай бұрын
@@FlywithMagnar thanks, That may be true. What I finally found that seems to work in ATR sim was to click & pull "Idle Lock" switch. Once that was pulled I could then lower throttle to idle & disengage Gust Lock on. All is well. I could see how that could be fatal in real life flight if not able to figure it out on the fly & not safely on the ground. Thanks 4 reply & answer. Looking forward to future videos you put out. Top notch! Pun intended
