I really enjoyed this podcast! FM Canty gave a ton of information throughout the show. My biggest takeaway was the importance of studying tactics and calculation over everything else.

Dude was at the Charlotte tournament losing to a 1700. He'll never be an IM, nevermind a GM.

Nigel Short almost lost to a 1900 Last year. Let's Strip him of his Titel retroactively because these things don't happen Here and there 😄 its totally normal for adult improvers to have massive strength fluctuations.

@Simon Hinkel I hope you realize how bad an example that is. Short is an old man. You can't compare a former world champion challenger to a FM who is now 2100-something at the age of 30 trying to be a GM. Going up 400 rating points at his age would be unheard of. Comical comparison.

@@benjamindillard2391 If your argument would be 'it's unheared of and therefore he can't do it' that would be fine. That's what everybody says and what might be right. But your argument ist 'he has lost to a bad player and therefore he can't do it'. And that's a pretty dumb Point to make as well.

His comments are so racist. He says he wants to be the best "black Grandmaster" and best black 2700 player. What's wrong with being a GM or a 2700 player? Why does he have to add "black" to it? Racist comments. I'm out on this podcast.

racism implies thinking one race is superior to the other. What's inherently bigoted about wishing to act as a role model to a demographic that is traditionally underrepresented in the elite class of chess? Seems like you've confused bigotry with acknowledging the fact that race *does* exist, and continues to affect dynamics in chess spaces.

@@beautyholic5592 I don't see color. I see character, as MLK said. Turn the comment around. If someone said they wanted to be the best white GM, that would have people saying that was a racist comment (which it would be) because it implies that other races are not good enough to be a GM, which is obviously not the case.
@mcronrn

@@TCS088 No - for a 30yo IM to say they want to be the best white GM, then that would mean being better than Magnus, and no 30yo realistically thinks they’re gonna be better than Magnus. But you aren’t making good-faith points - you just don’t want a black man to make any reference to being black, and being part of a black community. Go away - your bunker under that RE Lee statue misses you…

@@mcronrn That is not true at all. I don't see color. I see character. I hope he does make GM, regardless of his color, race, or nationally. But when someone makes a point to point out their race, that is what makes them a racist. He could have simply said he wants to be a GM.
