My guess is that removing the Volante removed a nice link between the MEZ and the forwards as well as a place to send the ball in case the defense holds the initial attack. Then the Volante can either shoot from the edge of the box or link with the MEZ to move the ball towards your right flank (the WB and/or F9). Without him, the MEZ has to do all that alone and he might not be able to, especially if the opposition has a DM - he'll be in that spot uncontested by an attacker. As far as it looking ugly...I wonder if we put the tactics in real football in here if it would look "nice and symmetrical" as FM makes them look, especially when in possession since I've read that the formation screen is really just your desired out of possession shape.

I know it’s the end of the fm24 cycle but I love your vids. Thinking of the current ‘ Barkleysmen’ theme for me thinking of past names such a Rory Delap… and his long throws. How would you go about creating a tactic when selecting ‘play for set pieces’ ? Full backs with long throws? Left and right footed corner takers? High Free kick attributes? Tall, brave players to head the ball in?

How about a 5 to 10 year rebuild with this? League 2 or National?

Hey Stinger, its my crazy ass again... here is a serious of tactics for ya - the Numbers Formations, i was the one that brought you the Big 2, but can you get the other single numbers, the 8 is easy( its a 4-2-4 but WBs in WB positions rather than as DR and L & 2 Centre midfields obvs, i have it scoring buckets but it doesn't defend well, what can you create... i might screen shot the 2 n the 8 n tweet them to ya...

I think you could put a DLP instead of the mezzala in you want more cover. The volante is needed to carry the ball

I think it's a thing of beauty personally 😂 I can see why a VOL is needed over a DM. I imagine a wcb will cover the lb area as there's the extra 2 cbs to cover, but without a VOL you have no creativity in the attacking mid area especially the left side. If the WP stays left and deep you'd be relying on the IF rather than letting him get into goalscoring positions?

I have an idea. Make a team of perfect players and prepare a tactic for them to lose as many games as possible.
