FM3 Firmware 8 - how to upgrade/update firmware - FRACTAL AUDIO FM3

With the official release of Firmware 8.0 for the FM3, here's a quick video and walkthrough on the update procedure as i update my own unit to firmware 8
update - check the pinned comment below for enabling gapless between presets if you want that
*with regards to amp resetting or not, from my understanding if certain amp models you're using (e.g Fryette d60) as that model has been completely updated, you should reset that amp block to get all the changes to the amp that's been made (should you choose of course)
amp values/parameters after all the presets have been upgraded to Firmware 8 apparently have the new values updated otherwise,

Forgot to add with regards to gapless between presets: gapless i believe is set to ALL after the update (it was in my case) so you get gapless changes within a preset, if you want gapless changes between presets follow the below: (it's in the release notes) A new parameter SETUP > Global Settings > Config > Gapless Changes has three settings: Off, Channel & Scene, and “All” (Preset, Scene, Channel). For preset changes to use the new gapless switching, two conditions must be met: Setup > Global Settings > Config > Spillover must be set to “ALL” Your presets must be saved under firmware 8.x or newer. You can do this manually in any of the usual ways or use the automatic utility in: SETUP > Utilities > Preset > Upgrade All Presets.

Thanks, good video! A good example why Fractal is sometimes overcomplicated. That you had to make a video on how to properly update your unit and presets shows how unintuitive Fractal's requirements sometimes are, especially for new users. Why can't the update process take care of this? Or, ask the user when loading the new firmware on what to do. But enough ranting - your video is helpful :)

thanks🙏 totally understand, i think with the FM9 + FX3 , there's none of that resetting amp blocks stuff and through some forum discussions it's not absolutely needed here depending on what preset/amp you've got loaded in, although the 'upgrade all presets' thing is as the model i use a lot the d60 more was completely updated/replaced an amp reset was needed to get the updated values on there to be honest i'll take a slightly more involved shall we say =) update procedure for all the other benefits, kinda like taking your car in for maintenance, but totally know what you mean, it's the reason why i thought i'd make this video to help others out

I have not yet updated my FM3, but I'm curious if I will lose block library settings saved, and whether those can be reimported after resetting the amp block? Any different from just making a full preset copy and comparing the update amp block...?

i think block libraries are left unchanged, that's something separate that's saved you can certainly reapply/reimport them after updating and resetting amp blocks the libraries i had for the various effects remained after the update in any case but i don't have any on the amp block, should be no different though

Hi, If I do "UpgradeAllPresets" in Setup>Utilities and press the A button, nothing visibly happens ??? (I reset the AMP blocks on all factory presets, but I have no idea whether that was necessary. I left it alone with my own few) thx for Help

hmm, normally a window on the FM3 comes up when you do that saying updating presets/time left did you have firmware 8 beta before updating? if you did it already on firmware 8 beta that might explain things

Do you need to do this amp reset with axe fx 3?

I'm not sure, I read that on the Axe 3 this was updated automatically once you got 25.00 or 25.01

only on FM3 apparently, i think i noted it somewhere in the video, FM9 + AXE3 do this automatically with latest updates, , only the FM3 needs the amp blocks reset

Do you know how can I check installed DynoCab version in my FM3?

as far as i know there's no way to check which version of dyna cabs are installed however, if you have an older version that needs updating FM3-Edit will normally tell you if i'm not mistaken if you'd installed firmware 7 already you have the latest dyna-cabs installed, so no need to do anything if you're updating from firmware 6 and earlier you'd need to update/install dyna cabs as well

@@IceageTeam12 keine problem, du schaffst das =) wie erwahnt, wird ich auch in die reinfolge probieren zu installieren 32 bit USB driver 32 bit Fractal Bot 32 bit FM3-Edit und dann gucken ob der procedure wie im video alles fonktionniert sonst, muss man eben den firmware separat runterladen, und mit Fractal Bot auf dem gerat schicken und so updaten, ich denke aber das wenn man die neuste version vom software hat, sollte das wie im video fonktionnieren
