That is a beautiful stick, is it iron Rattan? I know that its one of the heaver and more sot after rattan sticks with all the nodes on it. I found some for sale one time but they wanted 60+ bucks for a single 28 inch stick, still very nice.

Oh yeah, it's nice but hard to find... To my understanding it's kind of rattan that grows slower and therefore it creates more those nodes. I guess it's even more dense on the inside and therefore heavier. The cheap light ones with less nodes grow faster and are cheaper but not nearly as durable as one of these babies... :D -Tommi /Taistelija Films

is Labsyka

It's labsika, a kind of rattan. The nodes are about an inch and a half to two inches apart and it's heavier, more like a hardwood fighting stick, than the usual rattan training stick, which are another kind of rattan which we call uway here in the Visayas. Unlike uway, which eventually shreds with use, labsika behaves more like bamboo in that it can crack and the crack will follow along the grain and eventually break. This is why you must be picky with getting one, making sure that there isn't the slightest sign of a crack. This is also why labsika is quite pricey.

Why do people keep saying that the tip of the stick carries the most power. Sure, striking with the tip gives you more reach, and in a swing, the tip does have the greatest velocity, but you transfer energy more efficiently if you hit further back at the center of percussion or "sweet spot" . Same goes for swinging a baseball bat or tennis racquet. Really. I'm disappointed. I expect Germans to be more technically precise than that! LOL ...Check out how Rene Latosa hits, and he really generates power!

I have wondered the same thing. I didn't notice if the same thing was repeated here.

Also - my understanding is the stick was always intended to be a training substitute for an edged weapon. So many seem to forget that and are turning Kali into a fancy way to dance with sticks. BUT if we accept the premise of them being edged weapon analogues, the tip is where you want to be as it means you are further away from you opponent. But if you want to chop the arm off, that sweet spot you perfectly described in much better words than I is where you want to be
