Thank you Rob, I have just completed my first fmq on a quilt, using your leaves and vines tutorial. So excited. I bought a Bernina 770 a few months ago (with the stitch regulator), and your free PDF files are a massive help and the tips etc. I have been patchwork quilting for about 10 years and not done this before! P.s. A long thin pair of tweezers (nicked from hubby's work room!) are great for pulling up that thread which has been cut with the auto cutter.🙂

I love the flow that your leaves and vines take when you move into the border... Almost like seaweed. Very awesome! I'm so nervous to try FMQ...

You can do it, Kari! FMQ takes time and practice, but you can totally do it! Have fun quilting!

I really enjoy your tutorials Rob, so reliable; I know I will not get bored and will learn something new every time. Problem is I keep watching tutorials when I should be sewing....

Thank you for doing these tutorials! Your fun and enthusiastic attitude is really encouraging. I noticed your stops and starts were practically flawless. Mine are pretty noticeable. I may try that silicone mat, and I'll be purchasing the books as well.

I love watching you and I have learned so much. Your energy makes me want to try everything with a smile. I'm wondering if you could show us quilters how you hang quilts on a wall? Thanks Rob.

Hi Rob. I love watching you FMQ. I agree it would be very difficult to FMQ and talk. When I'm sewing I can't handle distractions. So my hat is off to you! The Skills and Drills series is wonderful!! What loft of batting gives the prettiest 'puff and crunch'?

Rob, I am truly enjoying your free motion skills and drills videos, I have learned so much from you that I am no longer afraid to try to FMQ. I was wondering however if you have a PDF for the vines and leaves and if so how can I get a copy ? Thank you again for all that you do and teach. Keep up the fabulous work !!!

I printed out the thread compass, but my Bernina uses LED numbers not a dial. Would you tell me how your sheet translates into numbers? Thanks so much! I really enjoy your tutorials, the way you explain and show your close up stitching is very GOOD, Kathe

Rob - I have been following you for a while now - your range of talent is amazing. I was wondering if you could answer a question? I have tried free motion quilting and basically I am horrible. I hand quilt everything and actually enjoy it but, free motion would help me finish up a series of quilts that I have been making and the tops pile just keeps growing. Any other suggestions? I'll keep watching - you are awesome!

You've just gotta practice and practice! I'm sure you'll get it soon enough. :) That slippery mat that I put on my machine helps so much, so maybe it'll help you too if you give it a try. You can find it right here: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/40242/gossamer-designs/-/sew-slip-multi-purpose-sheet

hi rob, nice video! Any chance you could do a video, or a couple of videos, on the effects of using different threads and batting? maybe samples of the antique type puckering effect you can get after washing. How to get it the effect? How do you prevent the effect? can you use 2 layers of batting in a quilt? I've heard some people do that. does it cause problems? is it beneficial? Basically stuff like that. Thanks.
@ManSewingVids8 жыл бұрын
That's an awesome suggestion! I did a tutorial recently on batting, but I haven't done one one on thread yet. Thanks so much for the tip!

Do you use the Slip Matt on your sit down quilting machine at home ? Love your tutorials. I have used several of them. Thank You.
@RobAppellDesigns8 жыл бұрын
Yes I actually do use the Sew slip on my sit down 16, great glide, and reminds me to keep my hands in closer to the needle, not so much drift as you can feel the difference under your hands a bit when you are no longer on the mat, just like a domestic machine in a cabinet with an insert. - World record run on sentence, cheers!
