I just had a chance to go through your videos on setting up the FMS 1450 P-51 Mustang. Kudos, great job! I have this aircraft now and have our owned others in the past, your videos are spot-on and very valuable to someone setting there airplane up properly :-)

Thanks. Mine is down for a while now as one of my main retracts froze up on me yesterday. I now have to investigate it and probably replace the retract. Just posted a video on that yesterday

I have the same model, in addition to the "Small Parts CNC" side plates, I installed their machined trunnions replacing the pot metal ones which can easily break the trunnion forks on the impact of a rough landing or a sharp turn.

Hi Glenn , I have just purchased this aircraft , can you tell me the exact company you went to for the side plates . Thank's Nick Alsford

@@nickalsford6288 Unfortunately the side plates will not work for the new style retracts that come with the current production FMS 1450 P-51, the new retracts have a rounded body versus the flat replaceable plates.

Thanks again for the great informative videos! I used to have an older model mustang FMS model. I removed 2 blades of the prop and it flies much faster with the motor able to spin faster! Pulls less amps from the battery too! Try it you'll be surprised. 4 blade props don't work very well at this small scale, only on full sized aircraft.

Great informative video. I encountered all of these issues on my build, with the wing halves not fitting together being the most annoying. On my fourth flight yesterday one of the retract trunions popped out of the plastic side plates, so I had to slacken them off to put it back in again. The aluminium side plates will be a mod I will be doing so thanks for the info.Gary.

May have missed it, but I never notice you set the control throws.. I can't get the recommended throw on the elevator.........

Sorry I'm so late getting back to you. Was away on a vacation out of state. Didn't go well. As far as the elevator throws go. I set that up years ago. I'm sure I tried to be close. Don't know if i ever got full throws. I usually just try to get my zero / neutrals right and then set the throws at 100 % of the travel for high rates. Then i fly mostly in reduced rates anyway to where my eyeball likes the throws. if you are not getting the suggested throws, I'd start with making sure that with the control sticks at neutral / centered, the the servo lever is indeed at the middle/90 degree position. If not, unscrew the lever and place it at the middle travel (90 degree) point. hook the rod up to the outer most hole in the horn on the elevator and see what you got. if not enough. move it in a little. just make sure that the elevator channel servo is moving to 100% on your radio. cant tell you how many times i have cut and pasted an existing model settup on my transmitter to a newly built plane or model to save settup time...and forgotten that it was in low rates or that i had the servo travel reduced on the old setup.

@@markhyde43 thanks.....Servo is centered, control throws and dual rates are up as high as they will go, and the pushrod is set for max throw at both the servo and elevator ends.......I can't even get the .92” they recommend for low rates! I usually set everything up by eyeball relying on my experience......but this is not my plane, so I want to get it set up properly for the owner....

@@balsumfractus well I have a new one that I am building hopefully this weekend. Another red tail. I will have to check the servo throws on this one as I build it
