Excellent! You are a vocational school level instructor. The amount of hours fiddling with cameras and editing was probably more than the brake service time. Thank you!
@NEILSWORLD4 жыл бұрын
I always think of things I should have said afterwards. I think I could have better explained the adjuster operation. Definitely more time making the video than the actual service 😃😆. I think that's mainly because I overshoot to make sure I get something I want and I have so much footage to sift through. 🤣

Well done!!! I will check to see if you added the brake tools you used that are particular to the FMTV in the description. I think I will be ordering some very soon!

I believe Ethan Turner will be producing the bolt-on tool and a link will be added when he is ready. I did see some on eBay. I just want to verify that the spoon I have also works on the front before I list it in the description. Also I want to check out the snap-on tool truck to see if there is one that might be better than the one I had.

Fastidious Restomods sent me over, a very helpful and explanatory video. I'm working on a MAN truck, which is a cousin of the Styer and LMTV. The brakes are not identical, but similar enough to let me know what to do.

Wow, thanks so much for the video. Two things that irk me about your video: 1- I spent more time getting the springs back on than you spent on the entire brake job 2- Now I have to do all the brakes on my truck At least it won't cost me a fortune like Sean's videos... Seriously, thanks so much for this. I read the TMs and followed them, but you gave me a much deeper understanding of it.

Thank you for the great videos. Mine came from the depot with a blown out rear tire and the rear axles caged. I am thinking of rebuilding the entire axle with the help of your other CTIS seals videos. What tool(s) did you use at the 1:55 to open up the brake itself *without killing yourself*? I have a suspicion rust may be a problem inside from the condition of the outside and not having a dust seal on any of them. A guy told me some horror stories when someone mistakenly unscrewed the bolt holding the two halves together when they thought they were unscrewing the caging bolt.

Hi Neil. Just watched this video again. Great reference. Did you use a standard grease for the brake fittings or special type? Also, I would recommend storing the caging bolts rather than leaving in the can. Had a bad experience with a a caging bolt where the thread broke off, allowing the large can spring movement. Yikes! Recommend paying close cage attention to the threads of these bolts and replacing them if there is any threads that are suspect. Appears someone overtightened the caging bolt, weakening the thread.
@NEILSWORLD3 жыл бұрын
I just used a standard Grease. I would definitely not leave the bolt in the can. I just keep them in the toolbox instead of storing them in the storage spot.

Thank you for these videos! very helpful as I consider buying one of these, seeing the relative ease to maintain one. It looks to me like you flipped the fixed and adjustable plungers from top to bottom, does that matter? edit - I now see the correction on this part, Should've waited before posting?

I was wondering where you can get the adjustment plate?
@NEILSWORLD2 жыл бұрын
I had a small machine shop in the area make it. The dimensions are in the technical manual.
@davidkloven37204 жыл бұрын
Fantastic! Thank you :) What kind of grease was that?! Do you know if using anti-seize on the adjustment threads is ok?
@NEILSWORLD4 жыл бұрын
Any good quality Grace will do just fine. The threads on the adjuster did not originally have grease in them so I just oiled them. I did not want to put thick grease in there I thought it might hinder the operation. The spiraled teeth around that barrel are pretty tiny and that is what spins the barrel on that adjuster so a light oil is best I think. That system is pretty well sealed up and should not have a corrosion problem. the most vulnerable point for water infiltration is where the canister threads into the caliper housing. That would be a good place for some anti-seize compound now that you mention it.
