A video recorded for the person wondering what makes the brakes work on LMTV series trucks and about the self adjusters needing cleaning and relubing after sitting for years. In no way designed to be instructional.

shweeeet.... needed a brake video. My truck started driving skewed (crab walking a bit) and it has been suggested that could be brake issue which makes since cause it started right after a very hard braking.... really needed this video.

Well actually there directional !!! Wedge brakes were made by Rockwell and Bendix twinplex both were self adjusting basically they were the first design of self adjusting brakes on trucks that I know of, the adjuster design of the Rockwell brakes was incorporated into the modern Rockwell paymaster slack adjusters used on trucks etc even to this day !!! The Rockwell design wedge brakes were the most popular but got the name suicide brakes stuck to them because they were to small for adequate braking on Big trucks !!! Some had a tapered ramp incorporated into the plungers to make them self energizing. THEY were redesigned years later and reintroduced to the trucking industry but the suicide brakes stigma scared customer acceptance so they died out prematurely (oh well) There were different angles of plungers used to increase braking force but they were just to small for big trucks so stuff happens as they say !!! Clean and lubricated with white lithium grease they did fine on smaller trucks but they died out and probably won't return after there last failed attempt but I hope I've helped you out !! Thank you! I'm sure others appreciate your knowledge in the matter. I agree that the lubrication in the wedge is the most important part of the maintenance of the braking system on these. When you get the FMTV series truck I found out that because the brakes are so difficult to get to for manual adjustment that they also have not been maintained and are frozen up because the military did not take care of them. So it's best to remove all of them and clean, get working, and reassemble using white lithium grease.
