Keeping my Fingers crossed but you might have just showed me what i needed to know about why MY FAL would not cycle. It seems as though some Numbnut put the Gas tube in and never put that little pin in. Thus allowing my gas tube to rotate and block the gas hole completly. I just took a Roll pin and filed it down to fit the hole. so now the gas tube stays where it should and keeps the gas hole on the top open. I will try to get to the range sometime in next week. wish me luck. and thanks for the Vid.

Update... That definetly helped it. I do have it now functioning but only on number 2 setting so the gas system is not the greatest but it is running reliable now. Thanks again for the Vid !

Thank you for making this. The gas regulator spring was installed upside down on mine making the regulator very loose.

Yes, in my case the gas collar was screwed back/forced back on the threads completely wrong, leading to FTE issues. I don't understand how these issues happen at all, the gun is fantastic and super simple to reassemble, yet some people just get it wrong.

Enjoyed the video. It help a bunch, us carolina guys dont know everything. I have 2 fals and they are amazing. The takedown is so much easier than my M1A. I wish there were more original fals available. Thanks and God Bless

TacticalTigerBalm well FN FAL is not that popular... quite forgotten rifle these days. Undeservedly so, because it is one of the best battle rifles IMHO ever. Anyhow, I one day wanted to disassemlble the gas tube, and found no videos, so I decided to make one myself.

Thanks for the video, my inch pattern is slightly different but the principle is the same, the gas tube retaining pin had moved loose causing feeding issues. I guess this will happen again and I need to find an new pin. Thanks for posting this was a great help in diganosing my problems. Will take it to the range on Saturday to test fire and hope its solved the issues.

And Im a happy chappy - my FAL is working as it should, so this saved me money and effort. Im going to watch the pin and tube to see if it moves, maybe a new pin is needed or some loctite.

Outstanding vídeo mate, I am glad you got a rifle from my country. Unfortunately we, the people, for political reasons do not have access to such weaponry. Thank you for sharing. I was always a big fan of the FN-FAL. ''Oldie but goodie''.

+Damon Hyatt thanks a lot! u are really welcome, my friend! I am just as puzzled, as you are- why are FALs so scarse, so rare to see, and so hard to see good videos about them? One of the most underrated surplus firearms out there, yet, unparalleled performance, and reliability. I managed to shoot sub 2 MoA w/iron sights, w/surplus ammo with my FAL, so accuracywise it is A+ platform. Plus the accessory is cheap (magazines are easy to come by, and very cheap, too).

Simple novice here but why would one need to adjust the gas system adjustment screw to allow more or less gas to escape??? .308 v 7.62??? Great video thank you!!!
@Sinaimedve007Ай бұрын
@@jamescohn4268 this has several reasons and utilities. You may whish to adjust the gas quantity to the piston for: 1. Dirtier gun under field conditions 2. Different ammo types might demand a bit more or less gas for the piston It is not related to the age-old debate of 308 vs 7.62 My FAL ate any and all ammo without any hiccups at all, be it 308 or 7.62, brass or even steel case.

I need to find a video of someone drilling a proper gas port into a new barrel and then putting on a new gas block onto the barrel. Would you know anyone who has done that sort of work on a FAL?
@them1ch010 жыл бұрын
Thanks for uploading this very educating video. My FN FAL's gas plug is stuck, i cannot remove it or rotate it in the first place, even when i depress the small button. It hasn't been disassembled or cleaned for over 20 years... so i must presume it has a lot of rust that is causing it to jam like this. Also the adjustment screw of the gas system is stuck/jammed and also probably because of the rust. I sprayed it with a special gun oil that removes rust 2 days ago and i tried today to move it but i couldn't do it with my bare hands. Any suggestions?
@them1ch010 жыл бұрын
Bear of Sinai thanks for you detailed reply. i have decided to take it to the gunsmith tomorrow since i do not have all the required equipment at home. i will let you know what happens later.

Bear of Sinai after taking my FAL to the gunsmith we managed to fix it [was able to disassemble it after firing around 500 rounds and left without cleaning for 30+ years(by my stupid uncle) ...] but had one problem, we couldn't remove the small pin that holds the gas tube. Tried everything, sprayed it with oil and left it for hours and tried to push it like you did in the video but it just didn't move even 1mm. Is this bad, or dangerous? can I fire my FAL safely? without being able to remove this pin and the gas tube? Thanks mate.
@Sinaimedve0079 жыл бұрын
Micho First of all, let's emphasize the fact, that your uncle is a genious, cause he bought a FAL, which he gave to you. WISHED I HAD AN UNCLE LIKE THAT :)!!! Anyhow, the gas tube itself doesn't need to get removed at any time, unless it's kaputt/fracked up. It's my custom, that if I buy any firearm (old, or milsurp), I disassemble it byond field strip, and examine it. If your gas tube is broken (literally), your rifle won't cycle. Taht's all. Caould you remove the piston? The spring? Are they OK? If yes, just make sure the gas tube is clean, use a cleaning rod with a large enough brush, clean it out. USE PATCHES ONLY IF FIXED TO THE CLEANING ROD, cause if they fall off, it will be a bitch to remove with a gas tube fixed. Use a lamp, check out, if the tube is unblocked, no gunk, junk, shit is in it. Look into the gas tube from both ways, same as checking a bore. Point being, the gas tube must be without obstacles.
@them1ch09 жыл бұрын
Bear of Sinai LOL well actually, it was my grand father who bought the FAL, my uncle just shot a couple thousand rounds[turns out it was more than i expected] and didn't clean it, left it for years and fucked it up. :P . Everything is okay now with the rifle's disassembly except for the gas tube which i couldn't remove because of the pin. but the gas tube itself is in very good shape.(i just sprayed some oil inside the gas tube, i don't wanna risk having a patch stuck inside.) Anyway.. I am modernizing my FN FAL so, i got a scope mount [35$] and a BIG ASS 6-24x50 scope[155 $], and it looks GREAT when mounted on the rifle. postimage.org/image/d3hfg767h/ postimage.org/image/bpudymwbx/ i also ordered a Quad Rail mounting system [62$] (picatinny rail) and planning on getting a Bipod and a Vertical Grip, when they arrive i will show you how it looks. when the setup is complete , i'm gonna take it to the range and fire it and zero the scope.

Excellent video, very informative! But I believe there is one small mistake in your video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/apjKqnajrrmSrLc here you say, that if the gas tube is screwed entirely inside, it blocks the hole where the regulator is and that the piston would not get any gas, if it was closed with gas tube like that. It is actually quite the opposite. If you cover the hole with a gas tube, the piston wold get all the gas and the regulator would quit working, as the hole would be closed with the gas tube from inside. Therefore, it would work on full strength, as the gas is coming from the front, pushes the piston back and when the piston moves past that hole, it bleeds gas out to soften the action. How much gas is bled out depends on the setting of the regulator. If it closes the hole completely, no gas is bled out, if it closes the hole only partially, some gas is let out and the action is softer... Anyway, very helpful video, thank you!
