Thank you for showing what the different settings of the gas regulator do to the operation, very informative.

Much obliged, 2k2 . I'd been struggling with my sa-58 for a week. Stupidly used cheapo com bloc ammo, first time out, would cycle, wouldn't cycle, then your close up of the actual hole was invaluable [old eyes] lake city ammo and now I got the battle rifle I always wanted. Thanks again : )

Awesome video brotha! I really appreciate your help. I was reading FAL files the other day and I saw a comment of a guy who said he puts his gas setting at 5 clicks which is where you had put it, he also said most DSA FAL user's put them at 5 as well. I'm going to start off at 5 and see how that works. How many rounds do you have though your FAl so far?
@2k2nbmta8 жыл бұрын
At least 600 rounds now

There's a saying in the British army "Stay at 5, stay alive" referring to adjusting their SLR (british FAL) gas systems

My DSA is a pile. Very inaccurate. Factory rear sight hole was drilled too low to use. Gas block must be at second to last click(almost closed) to eject shells more than 6ft. Mine is lucky to eject at click 5. I’ve tried multiple ammo brands. Contacted DSA and they wouldn’t do anything without the FFL dealers invoice number.

Yeah I must've just got lucky with mine especially with it being the cheapest version. Seems like a lot of people have trouble with these rifles. I haven't shot it a ton though

I've been told that the FN FAL has got a cyclic rate of fire in the threshold from 700 to 850 rounds per minute. Is this because of the variation of gas intake due to that adjust system???

IMO the best setting is between 5 and 6 clicks, which is based on the original 1970's FN FAL L1A1 which was used by the australian Army and most other NATO Armies. :) So basically the DSA company in the USa has made a lighter version of the original rifle,which is to say with the current metals used it would be a better rifle, but only if they stuck to the original tolerances and measurements of everything but with better metals and composites then you would have a truly great semi auto/full auto rifle, which i believe you can get semi auto in australia but only if you can prove 100% its used as a pest control reasons like feral pigs on your property etc. :) But to have it as a collection you cant buy it with out the correct licence at least in australia ?

What's your opinion on the 21 in barrel model have a opportunity on one for good price.
@2k2nbmta8 жыл бұрын
mulekicker 1919 nothing wrong with it, that is kinda the classic configuration of the FAL. it's a long gun with the full length barrel but on the plus side you'll get the full potential out of that 308 round

mulekicker 1919 I've recently spent some time and money on mine. It was originally a 16.25" carbine SA58 but I got an extra upper without the carry handle cut and mounted a medium 21" barrel. I sent it to Ed Vandenberg of Vandenberg Guns in Texas and he timed the barrel, headspaced the bolt carrier and bolt, and best of all, did a trigger job on the rifle. The new trigger pull is about 4 lbs now instead of 10+lbs. I can now pull the receiver pivot pin and swap barrels in about 20 seconds (upper receiver and barrel swap). I did have to do a little filing on the new upper receiver locking tab so it would close onto the lower receiver but now it is real tight for both receivers and barrels. I'm hoping to get good accuracy and range from the long barrel setup. I'm still messing with powder loads and bullet weights to find the best combination, and getting my skill up too. I'm hoping to get 1" to 1.5" groups at 100 yds which would mean solid hits on a 10" target at 800 yds.

I have the exact same rifle ( sa58 voyager 18") and to cycle 150gr zq1 ammo My gas system is 1 click from all the way closed to run reliably. In the same setting as yours mine was failing to extract the brass once or twice every 2 mags. The rifle functions just one click from closed fine but im worried its causing unnecessary wear on the gun.
@2k2nbmta8 жыл бұрын
Maybe call dsainc. Something isn't right. Have you shot several hundred rounds through it? Have you cleaned and lubed it a few times?
@LARPeratorsAnonymous8 жыл бұрын
+2k2nbmta no iv shot maybe 300 rounds and haven't cleaned it. Took it right out of the box and just shot it. I'll call DSA on Monday and see what's up. I felt like that was strange. With 308 the gun functions fine 3 clicks from closed but the zq1 it's gotta be closed like that
@2k2nbmta8 жыл бұрын
Mine I cleaned and lubed up with some CLP before even shooting it (was bone dry out the box). I can't remember how many rounds before it started to run 100% but it definitely had a little break in period. I have maybe 600 rounds through mine and have cleaned it 3 times

On my DSA SA58 I can open the gas all the way and it still cycles. And it still beats the shit out of my brass. I can reload maybe 1/3 of my spent brass.
@2k2nbmta7 жыл бұрын
yeah I noticed that with mine too except it doesn't seem all that bad, it just seems to bend the top part of the case where the bullet is seated. A friend of mine just got started with reloading so I've been giving him all my 308 brass
@BooDamnHoo7 жыл бұрын
2k2nbmta One issue I worry about more than the bent neck is a ding on the middle of the case fairly often. It isn't just a dent, it can be a divot. I've started filing the ejector face a bit at a time (angling the face slightly away from the election port) to try and reduce impacts with the receiver and, hopefully, to reduce case damage overall. There's an old web page that covers this technique and it worked for the guy who wrote it.
