It seems to me that the animatronics disappearing to nowhere before the screamer should still have been removed, replacing it with either an immediate screamer or an animation of them lunging at the player. It was as much a game convention as static poses.

Absolutely agreed, I don't buy the horseshit I've heard about them "sneaking behind you" like the animatronics penetrating the office in fnaf 1, animatronics vanish briefly in 2 and redux that attack from the front. It's a tiny thing on top of a very good redux, I'm inclined to overlook it in general, but it IS there
