A lof of people say FNaF 3 is the least scariest. And that may be true if you ignore everything going on and just focus on playing it, but it becomes one of the scariest when you realize you're not up against animalistic robots with the minds of children, you're up against a grown human serial killer. He knows where to hide so you can't see him, he toys with you by looking straight into the cameras and by peeking around corners or hiding around your door when you see him. He takes his time and stalks you like an animal, or a hunter catching prey. He has strategy and experience in murder, he takes advantage of distractions like the phantoms or the systems going down, and he knows just how to get you. You're essentially dealing with another human, but twice as dangerous. Not to mention he's wearing the suit he used to murder children, it's not only stained with his blood, but theirs too. He's dealt with animatronics before, he's the most dangerous antagonist in the series. You're going one on one, in a game of hide and seek with a serial killer. He's not coming for you for misguided revenge, he's doing it for fun.

Honestly when this game came out I thought it was the worst one. But as it has aged I've realized that aesthetically and conceptually it might be my favorite one. It is such a visually cramped game, never giving you an area to breath in except the office, with the office in fact being TOO open, making the player feel defenseless. Springtrap hides in corners and for the first time it feels like something fully sentient and wise is stalking you, not just an angry and confused spirit. The locations intentional rundown and tacky look also gives it an abandoned feeling, something I am suprised they have never done for the story of any of these games. Come on, someone goes into an abandoned building and gets trapped in there with animatronics, it sounds cool right? Anyways, I love how stressless it feels in comparison to fnaf 2. It feels more like something sinister is slowly lurking towards you, and while in fnaf 2 you had a sure fire solution to beat every animatronic, this one animatronic is far more intelligent, not falling for your old solutions. It feels like an agonizingly tense situation, with him approaching ever closer as all of your defenses slowly become more useless and broken. It is the only game in the series that has enough subtlety that I would consider it ominous, the other games are far too active and high octane for that. But this game feels like it is worn out, just like the franchise was at the time with oversaturation, it feels like the animatronics are as weary of repeating this 5 night cycle as the players are. And I think that was intentional, Scott knew the series was on a downhill at the time so he played into it by integrating it into the story and gameplay. It is the only game in the series I could actually see being able to be made into a traditional horror movie without having to change too much. In conclusion, it's a pretty neat game and a unique twist for a series so obsessed with throwing a million mechanics at you at a time and hoping they all stick (not an insult, just an observation, I love this series.) Plus Springtrap is by far the best concept they came up with out of all of the animatronics. He is just edgy enough that he is scary while still maintaining a sense of realism, as opposed to the intentionally over the top Nightmare animatronics.

You see _him,_ this time much closer to your face, close enough to touch. He snaps your neck, and then you see a light. Death has arrived.
