I think one of the huge reasons FNAF 4 is so scary is because of the setting. Rather than an office or unfamiliar setting, this game takes place in a bedroom, a place we are all familiar with.

@vampirs8882 жыл бұрын
No, it’s not just that. One of the scariest aspects pertaining to the game is the simple removal of cameras. Shuffling through the cameras in previous games, seeing where the animatronics are, reassures you a sense of safety and anticipation, as you know they’re not at your door yet, and furthermore, you have an idea of how much longer until they make their acquaintance. But in FNaF 4, there are no security cameras, so ironically, you don’t feel secure about the environment you’re in. So, you pretty much have to put your life in jeopardy and open the door to see what’s lying within the darkness beyond your doors. That constant apprehension when you approach the door, squinting as you open it to check, unsure whether a monster will greet you, or you’re actually safe, is the reason why I have never played FNaF 4, ever…. Something about heading to the door without knowledge of what you will see until you get there and shine your flashlight, it just evokes so many bad vibes.

FNAF 3 lore-wise is terrifying. You're Williams son, who's simply there to kill your own father, who is locked in the building with you; also trying to kill you. If you look at the game from this perspective, i'd say it is one of if not the scariest FNAF game.

I think that FNAF 3's gross atmosphere deserves more credit for what it does. While it's not dark and tension-building like other entries, it breaks the mold by making the environment rotten and quite unsettling in it's own right. It also fits the colors of Springtrap perfectly, and causes him to blend into the environment like a lingering predator. Springtrap's tattered design and creeping animations portray him more as a poisonous threat rather than a ravenous one; which better fits his uncanny personification as a character in my opinion.

FNAF came out when I was in second grade; and it has haunted me since. It’s what caused my fear of the dark, why I still put covers over my head, etc…and I haven’t even played it once. I also had recurring nightmares similar to the ones you stated, but the scariest part about it for me was the fact that the only information I was getting about the game was from my friends, so of course my brain took things to the other level. When one of my friends was describing withered Bonnie and how his face was gone, he said a “rabbit with it’s face torn off”, and second grade me litterly thought they were talking about a giant humanoid robotic bunny with a bloody skull, gore and all. There’s countless others stories. I’m glad it’s starting to come back though, as now that I’m older, I feel less terrified and actually quite intrigued, and might pick it up soon.

The jumpscares in UCN are hilarious because they just make "omnomnomnom" motions most of the time. It's the equivalent of "booga" and makes them seem less murderous and more like they're just pranking you. I wish there were more jumpscares like the scooping in SL because that would improve the horror aspect due to watching yourself get more or less eaten or having them lunge right at you being scarier than simply having them in your face. I think Springtrap in 3 has the most underwhelming jumpscares. He mostly just appears or stands there but watching him woosh across with your monitor up is pretty cool. His jumpscares themselves are also too predictable.

Most of the jumpscares aren't even animated, they're close up renders of the characters heavily shaking with motion blur. FNAF 2 has the creepiest atmosphere for me. The rooms feel so real and they feel like I’ve been there before which is why it’s so scary to me. The hallway with the bathrooms is probably the scariest room to me. I’ve been to a place that looks so close to it.

SB is meant to have that… epic modern pizzeria feel to it, with roaming characters like the rest of the games. But it has its own uniqueness to it, which makes it less scary. However, in FNAF 4, the game is so ramped up from the rest it’s insane. The Design, the ambiance, the fact that you are in a dark room in the middle of the night fighting off literal demons with doors and a flashlight, nuts. SB has that very… happy vibe to it. FNAF 4 is the scariest for me as well for many reasons which you listed and more, but mostly it’s the concept of staring into a pitch black hallway, knowing something could be staring at you INCHES FROM YOUR FACE, and having to just stand and listen. Of all the games, it makes me feel the most helpless, and the smallest (both physically in the eyes of a child/the size of the animatronics, but also in a more metaphorical sense as well because of the endless void of pitch black dark in the hallways)

1:40 It seems unfair to Security Breach to focus on those areas. I agree it's not much of a horror game, but you should include Fazer Blast basement, the Sewers, the Endo training hallway, and other areas where the vibe is intended to be scary. It's a game with a really wide range of environments compared to the others. Other areas of note would be the unlit daycare, theater basement, vents, and kitchens. It's still the least horror-like overall, but it isn't fair to show footage of the bright open areas, any more than Resident Evil 8 could be judged by the courtyard or mansion areas while ignoring the creepy basement areas with giant slimy babies chasing you.

@unboxing_legend77082 жыл бұрын
U sure ur not mistakening anxiety with the sense of getting highly stressed and uncomftable being in small and tight spaces? If im not wrong i think its a fear of it. Im someone who suffers with extreme to high anxiety levels and i for one can say that the vent isnt something thatd give me anxiety and or panic attacks. My anxiety in scary games only sets off when i start feeling un nerved and uneasy. Thats usually when i have a feeling something is or may happen that is putting my mind in a spiral of mess. Im almost sure i have dissasociative anxiety disorder, general anxiety and introverted anxiety which is what im calling that one. Dissosative being that i dont assosiate with other people often and if i do i feel uneasy and sensitive and could start feeling warm, go red, start crying, stop speaking, walk away, put my head down, blank them, zone them out, or even just small talk with people. General anxiety is more so that ur uncomftable assosiating with ppl for too long and dont like feeling looking or being made out/ signaled out for something and for some reason. The same affects apply thru all of them as well however this one is just that ur comftable and happy when ur safe in ur own personal bubble. What i call introverted anxiety is introverts who arnt used to assosiating with ppl or have lost the sense of trusting and beliving others resulting in sticking to their selves alone doing things on their own without ever asking for help and anyone who goes to speak to them they kinda just get frustrated and back away from them to stay within their confined space and do better or feel better alone to where they become more extroverted and may even slowly show more extroverted signs given time and if it never gets picked up by another person. For me when this happens what i originally start doing doesnt get finished, or i will flat out just not do it ever again cause i feel a sense if unruled berayment of picking up something i didnt want spoken out aloud. I use my room and my music as a calming method for my introverted self and anxiety to help clam myself and lower my wall and chance of potentially having a panic attack. Ive only had one genuine panic attack and i cant remember to why but all ik is the result of what happened to me was that i couldnt speak, couldnt move think act and choose what emotion i needed for that time so my body resorted to shaking alot slightly retracting, stepping back, quietly crying, putting my head down and hood up, and tryna figure out what to do. Luckily even tho the person who calmed down my anxiety hadnt realised i had a panic anxiety/panic attack from it, they did manage to calm me down and realised that they were to forceful with being so extroverted with me when my brain couldnt process how to deal with the problem. Ppl ive let know about my anxiety however dont all know to be careful with me as ive not spoken up about it too much as ive not felt comftable doing so but to those who do wont push it with me anymore and will know to calm down and take a soft approach with me to not set me into a frenzy. The worst times my anxiety has hit was collage as i werent sure who i could talk to what id be able to say who i can speak to and if i could be comftable with being around them ppl or getting to know them. Its safe to say that i made nearly 0 friends in collage and rarely spoke to anyone unless they spoke with me. I always let them know to always start a convo with me 1st and do it by small talk to ease me in to being able to have a conversation or ill just end up setting off again. However if i dont want to speak and make it clear in any way dont then try to carry on speaking with me its one of the worst things that can happen. Ud push me away more than anything and start to piss me off.

My only major gripe regarding FNAF 4 is some of the designs for the animatronics, they look cool that's for sure but it comes off as being extremely forced and dare I say a very cheesy and over the top to try and look scary which made me take the 4th game less seriously. The original designs from first two were fantastic (more so the first one) because there was really no major adjustments needed, restaurant animatronics on their own were always creepy and uncanny to an extent. Even when they're just idling and looking around where they'll occasionally stop to stare at something is already enough to send chills and especially when they happen to stare directly at you.

i agree here. Fnaf 4’s animatronics are pretty good (with foxy being the best imo) but they’re just not believable. I actually watched a video about the story of fnaf and when fnaf 4 was talked about a bit, the reason why they look overkill is because the little kid you're playing is William Afton's son. Why is that you ask? Well since Elizabeth aka Baby, was killed by his creation and what made William more guilty for this was bc he programmed Baby to kill children when approached, wich was something he wanted to prevent happening to his children. And after that happened, he decided to do something about his little son (forgot his name, sry) will try to get near them or even break out the house only to visit the animatronics. And what did he do? Installed some devices to tamper with his mind and play these nightmarish creations so he will get afraid of them so he won't get near them. And so the crying child had no other choice then to defend himself against them all of those nights. But until Michael had an idea to take his brother to Fredbears Pizza with his friends William was cool with it as long he scares his brother. And yeah when Michael decided to put him in Fredbears mouth, causing his brother to cry in tears causing the spring lock to malfunction, crushing the poor child's head Goddamn, why did I even write a essay about this

I’m kind of surprised I see a lot of people say Fnaf 4 is the scariest one. I definitely think that the atmosphere is really good in it with the focus on listening closely and the consistent silence contrasting the super loud jump scares, but the animatronics are just so overdesigned it just doesn’t really feel.. fnaf scary anymore. It just feels like generic horror monster scary. The point of the animatronics are their uncanny valley appearance, something meant to look cute and normal but we perceive them as eery as they just seem sort of ‘off’ naturally, like mimicking life. I think if this game went for just the original animatronic cast from fnaf 1 and just upped their grossness quality a bit like fluid leaking out of them/bugs crawling on them etc or even the withered fnaf 2 models I would’ve been a lot more scared of them. I wouldn’t even mind if they kept the big huge teeth and tattered monster appearance specifically for the night fredbear shows up because it would catch you off guard and fit the story well still, without going too overboard with making every animatronic not look like an animatronic anymore.

Amazing review(s) and ranking vid as always! Security Breach has been super interesting to see the reviews of in terms of horror. For me personally, it was one of the scariest in the franchise - maybe behind Fnaf 1 and 4 - although it might just be the free-roam and just how realistic everything looks. The fear factor does dramatically go down once you’re able to stun the animatronics (and throughout other portions of the game, like when you’re in Freddy), they remove that element of complete helplessness and turns it from survival based to skill or even just aim based. But those moments where you really can’t do anything but run go CRAZY

The scariest for me personally was definitely Sister Location. Just how the jumpscares and ambience play into it is amazing and the area you work in adds to it with the vents and dark windows. The scariest part of it for me was definitely Ballora’s room and when you find the other security guard hanging on Funtime Foxy’s stage.

For me it would be second. The jumpscares catch me off guard the most out of the whole series. I hate it being pitch black to seeing funtime foxy launch at your face. Also the design of baby just creeps me out. Number one would have to be Fnaf 4 not because the jumpscares because of the sounds and ambience it just feels the scariest game.

To me, the most unsettling moment in the entire series is in one of the endings of help wanted where you see the perspective of a child being murdered, and it’s elevated by glitchtraps horrifying design, also I think the security breach endoskeleton area is terrifying, but it’s still the least scary
@deathstalks20312 жыл бұрын
I love this series since it was the series that introduced me to the horror genre. All of the games are scary in their own way (even Security Breach). But if I had to pick the scariest it would probably be fnaf 3, the setting really adds to the suspense with how run down everything is and not to mention those times when you lose springtrap on the cameras is absolutely terrifying. The jump scares might not be the best but in my opinion, that doesn’t matter. The way Springtrap just stares at you when he’s in your doorway is terrifying, especially when you know who he is. The mini games really added to the suspense, especially the one where it showed Afton getting springlocked. When you finally realize that Springtrap isn’t like the others, instead of his soul being trapped in the suit, HE is stuck in the suit physically. I loved this list and I love your channel but sometimes it breaks my heart to see how much hate the 3rd one gets, if I could forget all about the lore and experience the games again I would, no other series manages to achieve what Fnaf achieves. True horror without relaying on gore and guts, with Lore that’s always a treat and always keeps you on your toes.
@xrayvisin2 жыл бұрын
On top of that, fnaf 4’s jump scares would always be possible at any moment during opening the doors. Unlike some of the other fnaf’s where you know when you’ve died before you actually died, in this one, there’s always a chance of it happening if you’re not careful and they usually jumpscare you when you don’t want it to happen (turning on the flashlight in the hall in hopes that they’re not at the door only turning out that they’re there and they kill you) I will always love fnaf 4 it’s so good

@randomguy14532 жыл бұрын
To be completely honest, my only gripe for this is fnaf 4s placement, but I do have to agree it is scary. However I feel it's more of the build up to the scare that is more inherently terrifying. The fact you need to listen so damn closely and all the the rest of the sound design being very unsettling is much more scary than the actual models for the robots are. The main reason I feel that way is they feel like they are trying too hard to be scary imo (big teeth, destroyed metal framework, ect.), so much so that they don't fit into that uncanny valley effect that I feel most true horror comes from. Otherwise, I agree with most of your other points, good vid!
@cazzabojangles2 жыл бұрын
I think I was scared by 1 more than 3 and a lot of the others in different ways- you felt safer when the doors were closed and you knew where everyone was, but watching the power go down was the most nerve-wracking feature I can think of throughout the whole franchise (except for maybe night 4 of SL). Plus, the first time I saw Foxy running down the hallway is a core memory of my childhood. Then for two, there was a lot going on so it felt less scary and more stressful than anything, especially when you had BB in your office, Foxy walking towards you in the corridor, the music box running out and toy Chica in the vents all at once. Taking away the doors was a good plan, losing the sense of security was scarier before you got used to it. Also Nightmare BB with his nasty hands is his own damn catergory.

My personal ranking and reasoning, from least to most: Security Breach: This feels like a BATIM clone with a brighter atmosphere. Not scary. FNAF 2: Part of the reason this isn't scary is because the unbeatable strategy of this game is so easy it's laughable. UCN: Nightmare Fredbear's voice still gives me chills, and many of the other ones can be spoopy. FNAF 3: This feels less of a horror game to me and more of an intense asymmetrical 1v1, but the atmosphere is really good. FNAF 1: Rather boring with how easy it is, but the atmosphere is one of the best in the series FNAF SL: Rather scary with how exposed you feel in most of the levels. Only Night 4 isn't scary, since it's more annoying than anything. FNAF 4: Atmosphere is probably best in the series, gameplay is rather scary FFPS: I have no words for just how unbearably terrifying this game is

I think fnaf 4 is so scary is because, and i’m paraphrasing markiplier here, when you open the door, you don’t know what is on the other side, it’s either good or bad, and the fact that sound is a crucial part of it makes the jumpscare and enviroment much more terrifying.

I’ll drop my own list as well since other people are doing it, from least scary to scariest: 8: Ultimate Custom Night. It’s just more about the gameplay than the actual scares. Definitely a cool one, but not really.. horror. 7: Security Breach. I like the game, not really that scary, but it has its moments. Feels tense unnerving at times especially with the Parts and Service endos and the DJMM fight. I also love details like chica’s voice without her voice box. 6: Pizzeria Simulator. I liked the tension a lot, but I wasn’t really a fan of the animatronic designs and the jumpscares arent as good as others from the series 5: FNAF 3. Not surprising to most, it just wasn’t all that scary. The atmosphere was creepy though and I liked the mini games. 4: Sister Location. The gameplay was a lot more unique for the series and played on some of the most tense aspects really well, but I wasn’t scared of the animatronics. They’re too plastic and pristine and robotic. They don’t have the uncanny valley feel of real animatronics anymore. 3: FNAF 4. Atmosphere is awesome, but the animatronics are so overdesigned they don’t feel that scary anymore, they become just generic horror monsters. Something about the safety of a bedroom feels more comforting than an unfamiliar office where you feel very trapped and vulnerable too - so the setting isn’t as effective to me 2: FNAF 2. The withered animatronics and mangle dominated this game. They were horrifying, and still are to me, and I thought the ambience was really good and the sound effects were great. My favourite jumpscares and jumpscare sound of the series. Mini games are super creepy, hidden things like shadow bon/Freddy and the endos were terrifying, it was just an upgraded FNAF 1 really. Toy animatronics outside of mangle weren’t scary at all though 1: FNAF 1. I wouldn’t even watch Mark play this game for awhile as a kid, and I was so terrified of playing it with my friend, certain we’d get nightmares. Everything was so mysterious to us still and the atmosphere kills it. The sound effects horrifying. That groaning sound when an animatronic gets in the room with the cameras up haunts me to this day. It just is objectively scary, and the animatronics feel real which really sells it.

Pizzeria sim scares me the most now, used to be fnaf 4 when I was younger due to the atmosphere but the shreak and tension built up before you get jumpscared in P.S genuinely shocks me right to the soul. I fully agree with this list. If I were to make a list of the Fnaf games based on horror, this would have been exactly it. Only thing I would maybe switch around is Security Breach with UCN since UCN isn't trying to be scary but hard. While Security Breach had some tense sections like the sewers or the part with the weeping angel endo's. With Fnaf 4 I litteraly had to think to myself, this is just a game where everything works in a specific way, I need to found out how the mechanics work. Thats the only way Fnaf 4 got less scary for me, the tension in that game is absolutely extreme. That is why Fnaf 4 problably my personal favorite of them all.

Fnaf 3 is and will always be my favorite game, springtrap has a really cool design, the gameplay is easier sure but still keeps you on edge. I think it manages to build tension even with only one animatronic song with the random appearances of the phantoms. While the jumpscare is a little weak it has startled me on occasion. The biggest flaw is the cameras, it’s hard to see anything and I get the purpose is to make it harder to find springtrap but the ambiance I think excels. While certainly n out the scariest it has character and manages to be something different from the first 2 games without trying to hard like fnaf 4. Fnaf 4 excels at being actually scary, design wise i think the vibe it creates is weaker than the first 3. I never looked fondly on fnaf 4 but I always will with the first 3 games.
