Nice to hear you give respect for infantry and "regular" soldiers. It always annoys me when they show infantry or cops as being incompetent, as if only SF or Feds have their shit together. Some guys may get more training and access to better resources, but there are a lot of "regulars" who have experience and take it upon themselves to go above and beyond the training they are provided.

I can confirm from the Iraq perspective that when sh** was about to go down, EVERYONE was gone. Busy streets and markets would be empty, and only bad guys were left. So when it was super quiet the hairs on your neck were definitely standing at attention! You guys are awesome. I like hearing your perspectives against each other with different points of view!

I rode turret for most of my deployment. Everything you said about riding turret is absolutely correct. Being in the turret allowed you to essentially control the tempo of the patrol also. If I felt we were being too passive, then I could start yelling at the Iraqis more allowing me to kinda amp up the driver. This helped out because midtour we got a new PL who couldn't read the environment yet. Edit: yeah that breeze feels good until 130*, then it feels like a hair dryer.

I manned a 240b on a Marine MRAP out in Syria back in 2019. It had the side and back panels but because I was 5'6 it was hard for me to see anything over it, even with me standing on the sidewalls of the gunners platform. With the 240 sitting on my shoulder, the weapon system stayed pointed at the rooftops. Good thing it was at night but it was also terrifying because you see people on the rooftops with AKs and Cellphones.

Shout out to those PJs man, these guys man are such professionals in combat medical and in combat situations, every ex-military or ex-SF dudes that I have asked on YT of course they all say that if a PJ patch you up you are going to live no matter the cost. What surprised me even more is their size most special operations unit except Green Berets are around 2,00/2,500 while PJs are like 500 that’s insane and their selection is no joke it’s like a sandpaper dildo but the grit of the sandpaper is lower (lower the grit the more coarse it is for sandpaper) for Green Berets it’s around 10,000 in size but take that with a grain of salt

My RG33 took a direct hit from a deep-burried IED; MEDEVAC'd 3/6 of the people in the truck and 4/6 got Purple Hearts. But that remote-weapon-system saved my gunner's life; pretty sure he would've been thrown out of the truck and turned into goo if he'd been up in the hatch.

heck man i loved the armor. my first trip we had soft skin shellbacks with zero armor. a few guys tried a layer of sandbags but if they didn't slide off when the driver took a turn or curve a bit too quick they would then emit the fine powder that gave them the effect of a mild sandblast to the face and also deposit a decent layer (on top of a normal layer) of said powder onto the entire contents of the truck, to include the driver and tc who none to happy about that really. also of note that since there was no armor your view was unobstructed and it was easy to move the gun which made reaction time quicker. then we got these shields that mounted in conjunction with the gun mount and at 72 mph (or the p on the bottom of the speedo i think maybe the h for those who know shoutout old timers) that thing was impossible to move back to 3 or 9 much less 1 (which was my favorite when up front in lead) cause it was like a sail that just kept the wind in it. all that said we finally got hillbilly armor and then 1/2 way through we got 1114's which had mechanical turrets. MUCH better. but i would sit in that freakin 100 plus sun on the side of the road with that 9 pound bucket baking my brain cells for hours on end sometimes (we escorted convoys almost exclusively) and wishing it just had a camo net over me. i implored everyone with a rockers and just stripes even to go to kbr and have them weld on some small angle iron and toss some chicken wire and tie some camo nettin over it for some relief but no one had the balls to do it. well for my next deployment to the stan every truck but americans had that chicken wire with netting type deal. then i went to kuwait and still no covers for the americans but for a few. most by that time also we sportin the mraps and such. but i would have any job but the gunner if i could help it. good analysis on the movie i saw it but forgot all about it. may check it out again.

My biggest complaint was they wanted me name tape defilade, but gave me a belt to sit on. I didnt have a 1114 but a to standard tow missile truck. There was no mechanical turret. You prayed you didn't have to shoot laterally while pushing through a kill zone. Ma duece and the turret shield blowing whereever the wind took it. I understand why the added the armor, but i wasn't happy with them added 200 lbs to my hip actuated turret. I tell you this, I hurt my old lady when I came home, lol.

Starting at 2:43, I noticed people crossing into other sight pictures and was happy to see you called the on it a moment later. I see this ALL THE TIME in movies where extras aren't taught to stay in their lane and walk through others' sight pictures and the extras don't react to that as someone would in real life. Drives me nuts to see it. Yeah, the convoy handling was nuts. I'd never even HEARD of this movie, I guess I need to watch it now!

I can't even imagine how hot a bulletproof bubble would be over a turret, as much sense as it makes to stop bullets and shrapnel. 100% less fun if you're Buck up there for the breeze. I had no idea the turrets were semi smart and turn toward shots though, that's pretty sweet.

It looks like a typical CA mission from a purely schoolhouse perspective, building pumps, digging wells, hearts n minds n shit, the uphill battle of a shitty situation. The guy that wrote it is an OIF vet, so it hit a lot of truths, not perfect but pretty good in my eyes. Personally I hated the CROWS just cuz I always got carsick.
