Former MI officer here. Pro tip as anyone wanting an 18F (or any 18 series) MOS. You will need a Top Secret clearance and the number one reason why soldiers are denied/lose a clearance is because of debt. Don't go neck deep in the red buying that brand new truck after basic. Don't marry anyone with a mountain of debt. CCF looks at your credit report and sees too many collections? Done. So be as debt free as you can and don't fall behind on any payments.

@@droman608 because working in intelligence is not like any other job. Information is currency and leverage and if you have debt that can be exploited by a foreign entity then it puts national secrets at risk. The intelligence community does not provide a lot of work-life balance, home and work are not incredibly separate.

When I was an 18F (back in the 1980's & 1990's) we were also responsible for intelligence collection and analysis, Field interrogations, PW and Guerrilla processing, propaganda coordination and dissemination, and a whole lot more. Can't see that it has change, other than the use of computers to look at real time information. It was a great MOS to have. I later moved on to 180A.

@@Jason32Bourne That's something you would need to speak to an Army recruiter about. Preferably an SF recruiter. My brother and I went in with 10thSFGA contracts. Just so happened that's all that was available at the time I visited my recruiter. I really wanted 7th Group as I was a Spanish speaker. All that means is if you pass everything and stay healthy from Basic, AIT, Airborne..you'll end up at Bragg to start your long SF journey. I suggest you review Buck's previous videos. One of the greatest warrants I knew was a team daddy and was picked up to be a SGM and he said fuck that, he wanted to stay on a detachment and get after it not sit at a desk and he eventually retired a few years ago off a detachment with around 30 years of service.

I just lost a 68 whiskey for the Reg. Because my recruiter didn’t put my arrest for weed in correctly seeing if it would pop up at MEPS, talking to his 1stsgt he said it would definitely pop up since I was fingerprinted etc. Pretty bummed out since it was exactly what I wanted plus the combat medic. Got to MEPS and he didn’t put my date in right and they didn’t have me in, I was supposed to get there the 8/9 but he said show up 10/11. So they didn’t have me in the system and now I gotta wait till next week to really begin this journey. Not deterred in the slightest but kinda annoyed, just another couple steps to the ultimate goal though. Your videos are really informative and good quality, keep it up Buck. 35L people usually must start at tactical units, but typically move to strategic after a while. It’s a great MOS, and when you get out it is easy to get a really good civilian job with your experience as a 35L.

As someone that's already MOSQ'ed as a 35F, I wonder how the route would be to go 18F. Although I'd probably need an age waiver go to SFAS

How can you make sure that you get 18B? I'm currently in AIT for 13B, (got 2wks left) but I'm wanting to reclass to a Ranger qualified MOS and then go SF later done the road

Huh, 18F sounds like a cool job actually. Are there any DISADVANTAGES? Like, if I wanna be an 18E, can I not continue to go to comms-related schools if I switch to 18F?

Does the 18f run with the boys on ground or are they back at the company. Important job but boots on ground is what most people go sf for i feel like.

They are right in it with the rest of the guys, the teams are small enough they can’t afford to leave guys behind. I once heard Kevin Owens say “in SF you’re a warfighter first, your MOS comes second”. 🤙

A possible route may be to become a 35F at entry and then apply for assessment later on. 😉

How would you equate mission failure to a teammate's death? Does the mission usually "fail" if you guys put yourself into a situation where teammates die, or are there examples of mission failure that you have where no one was killed (or hurt), but the mission still failed.

I love the concept of specialized MOS’s within a team. It’s that sort of thing that makes a team good. What I don’t like is the word career. One is so authentic while the other just makes me think “cynicism.”
