Former MI officer here. Pro tip as anyone wanting an 18F (or any 18 series) MOS. You will need a Top Secret clearance and the number one reason why soldiers are denied/lose a clearance is because of debt. Don't go neck deep in the red buying that brand new truck after basic. Don't marry anyone with a mountain of debt. CCF looks at your credit report and sees too many collections? Done. So be as debt free as you can and don't fall behind on any payments.

Information is currency and leverage and if you have debt that can be exploited by a foreign entity then it puts national secrets at risk. The intelligence community does not provide a lot of work-life balance, home and work are not incredibly separate.

When I was an 18F (back in the 1980's & 1990's) we were also responsible for intelligence collection and analysis, Field interrogations, PW and Guerrilla processing, propaganda coordination and dissemination, and a whole lot more. Can't see that it has change, other than the use of computers to look at real time information. It was a great MOS to have. I later moved on to 180A.

@@cbboiii1100 Thanks for your comment. 10thSFGA has a rich history. It was the first commissioned SF group. Came from the Devil's Brigade of WW2 fame. I served in Beirut with the 10th as did my (biological) brother. First brothers to make SF together. Same Group, Same Bn., Same ODA. Not sure but don't think that has ever been duplicated. Godspeed my friend.

@@Jason32Bourne That's something you would need to speak to an Army recruiter about. Preferably an SF recruiter. My brother and I went in with 10thSFGA contracts. Just so happened that's all that was available at the time I visited my recruiter. I really wanted 7th Group as I was a Spanish speaker. All that means is if you pass everything and stay healthy from Basic, AIT, Airborne..you'll end up at Bragg to start your long SF journey. I suggest you review Buck's previous videos. He does a great job explaining the best routes for earning your green beret. Good luck and NEVER quit.

@34ID11Bravo SF warrants are the shit man! Former team dudes who know how shit is done and they have the pull of an officer. But most never go full stupid like some officers haha. One of the greatest warrants I knew was a team daddy and was picked up to be a SGM and he said fuck that, he wanted to stay on a detachment and get after it not sit at a desk and he eventually retired a few years ago off a detachment with around 30 years of service.

I'm not SF, I was an 11B but E6 and above get BAH. Now graduation from Q course is automatic E6 so you could do on post or off post housing I'm fairly sure. I'd like to hear from a GB and see what they actually do though as well.

I just lost a 68 whiskey for the Reg. Because my recruiter didn’t put my arrest for weed in correctly seeing if it would pop up at MEPS, talking to his 1stsgt he said it would definitely pop up since I was fingerprinted etc. Pretty bummed out since it was exactly what I wanted plus the combat medic. Got to MEPS and he didn’t put my date in right and they didn’t have me in, I was supposed to get there the 8/9 but he said show up 10/11. So they didn’t have me in the system and now I gotta wait till next week to really begin this journey. Not deterred in the slightest but kinda annoyed, just another couple steps to the ultimate goal though. Your videos are really informative and good quality, keep it up Buck. I’ll Thank you from all your viewers on my behalf. Keep hammering brother!

hand to hand is typically up to the individual, we have a lot of combatives courses but they are generally not going to help if not continued by the individual on a regular basis.

It’s also about developing assets, establishing networks, recruiting indig who can provide the valuable intel. Back in my day, you had to go to O&I school as a stepping stone to becoming a Team SGT. It was required!

From what I’ve seen working with an ODA overseas, they’re not limited to the duties of their MOS, I’ve seen every MOS use a sniper rifle, we had a dog handler who reclassed from a 18D, and there was an 18E who in addition to being a big dick swinging fucking master of all things sniper, SDM, and Sharpshooter had a secondary mos that qualified him as a SOT-A which are basically the guys who listen to radio chatter to gather intel

Hey bro I had a question. Once I’m re-enlisted and complete all my training required. Do they do any additional backround checks? Or they just go based off your meps/military record? Guess what I’m asking is if they check your civilian record even if you have no signs of any health issues or anything of that sort? As long as you pass Meps should be fine correct?

35L people usually must start at tactical units, but typically move to strategic after a while. It’s a great MOS, and when you get out it is easy to get a really good civilian job with your experience as a 35L.
