the red are oakleys the blue are the fakes, but id get the "fakes" before spending $200 on a pair of sunglasses that probably come from the same factory,

I just based it off the lenses. The red doesn't distort the image whereas the blue ones do (therefore low quality)

based on how you handled them. I would guess the red lenses to be the fakes. you showed them to the camera more to give them the higher degree of critique. as far as how the performance differs between the two. that's hard to say since not many will have tried both. I've seen some videos where the fakes pass all the UV tests, but whether or not that's always the case is still to be seen. curious to hear your long term review!

Considering you bought the Red Lens Oakley's quite a while ago and have been wearing them in tons of videos, I am going to say the Red Lens are the real Oakley's.

The thing I do with eyewear is I buy generic decathlon shades with a good UV count- ride em for a season and when I get them trashed I just buy new ones- Don't care If they protect my eyes from the sun and bugs- they're good :)

The blue are fakes, I've done this experiment myself and the lenses of the fakes one sucks compared to the real deal. I personally find that the color is not uniform when looking thru the foakleys. Moreover I'm a perfectionist and I do see de difference in the frame too, the attention to details is just not the same. Bottomline, I prefer the real ones even if they cost way more.

There was a fella selling foakleys at the side of the road near Doi Kam. 100 baht a pair. Just getting rid of them. A one off sale. They looked OK. After about 3 months the frames on the first pair broke. The plastic is poor quality but looks ok at first. Tiny screws had rusted to almost nothing from sweat. The lens are decent though when you look through them . Nothing obviously inferior about the lenses. I imagine real oakleys will last for years and years as long as you don't lose them or break them.

Blue are Foakleys. Real Oakley’s in that color have a more matte finish like the red ones while the foakleys have that cheaper glossy finish.

Ones on the left of screen are real tell because of the lens. The color of the frame makes it hard to tell otherwise

Save yourself some money, get Foakleys! That is, if all you care about are looks and keeping the sun out of your eyes. If you give a damn about your eyesight though, you may want to think twice before buying cheap eyeglasses. You see, any time you curve any translucent or clear solid, and use it as a lens, you introduce distortion, caused by lights tendency to follow a curve. This puts strain on your eyes as they correct it, the same goes for clarity in lenses. You would be shocked just how much cheap sunglasses distort your vision. You know how wearing someone else's RX glasses hurts and strains your eyes? That's because rather than correcting eye deficiencies, they actually make them worse (for you, as they are not modeled on your eyes)? That's your eyes attempting to correct distortion, and clear up a fuzzy image. They can do this marvelously when distortion is not insanely high, but it still strains your eye muscles, just not as much. Unfortunately for us, our eye muscles do not repair themselves and regenerate like other muscles, and any damage or wear is permanent once it occurs. For a little while, cheap sunglasses won't hurt your u much, but day in, day out, they can cause damage that requires glasses or contacts to correct. There is a way to correct for this distortion caused by curvature, but as well as requiring a significant investment of time and capital, it is patented by, you guessed it, Oakley. Any company can correct for distortion on one axis, but if they use more than one, it infringes on the patent. There is no patent with regards to lens clarity, so long as you avoid very specific mixtures of polycarbonate, meaning it is achievable for any company, if they are willing to put in the time and money.

I would go as far as to say they would be 100% the same and from the same factory, basicly why oakleys and any namebrand glasses (rayban ect) are so expenceive is because there all distributed if not owned by a company called luxottica , Which have a 98% minopoly over the eyeware industry , oakleys did try to compete at one stage but got shot down and had to go along with luxottica for market reasons

The real oakleys will protect your eyes with uva protection. The fakes will allow you to open your eyes in the sun but will harm them long term. The reals are warranted and will be repaired free of charge if damages etc and the real ones are more durable and will prob last forever. I ve still got all my old ray bans but none of my cheap crap. Also the Oakley lenses have anti glare and are crystal clear and scratch resistant and shatter proof, ideal for cycling. Everyone to their own tho.

+durianrider as long as the fakes have uv protection thats the main thing, id sooner buy a cheap brand with uv than some fake made in a sweat shop. All they are is tinted glass and not even polarised either
