Oh my gosh I had been looking for this song for 6 months, ever since I started working as a carhop at Sonic. The speakers never worked so my manager fixed them because it would get awkwardly quiet when giving food to customers. My interpretation of the video is that the girl and the guy are the aspects of the same person (they often dress the same, are reflections of each other). The girl represents all that society accepts and want them to be - it looks like someone is constantly correcting, directing her, taking care of her in a patronizing way. This sound is carrying a little bit of a talking heads influence I heard on the last album.
