I'm pretty sure you've been in this situation before. You want to create a card and use a die cut as your focal point. But you don't just want to glue it down because you're looking for some dimension on your card. Your first thought is probably to use some foam tape. But what do you do if you have some really delicate and thin areas where it's impossible to attach foam tape? I think I've found the perfect solution for that kind of problem!

Luisa, I have another idea for you for dimensional flower. I have used the flower die to cut the flower in watercolor paper and also cut the flower in fun foam. The fun foam will be the exact shape as the flower and you could use white fun foam and it would give the same effect as what you did but you won’t have to use the grit paste. If you don’t know what fun foam is ….i guess I could explain it like sheets of craft colored foam. It comes in various thicknesses. I love watching your creativity and love listening to your cool accent. I’m from Pennsylvania USA. You reach far and wide with your talents!!!! Hugs

Works with felt too. I was going to say the same, I thought that’s what Luise had done when I saw the white. Luise as you probably know already, only run the foam through the die cutter once or it distorts a bit & gets thinner 😊

I don't think she'd like the foam sheets simply based on her comments regarding how the paste dries clear, so you wouldn't be able to see it, unlike foam tape which is visible. Somewhere around the 21 to 22 minute mark. But...maybe I misunderstood her.

The paste dries clear, but she also added a layer of white paper that she off-set a little. That's why it was still white. 😉 I also thought she had die cut some craft foam.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that, we feel your struggle. We've all experienced a painful moment in our craft rooms similar to this. You must not blame yourself. You did all that you could to fix the problem, and sometimes we have to accept when it's time to let go. It's time for the next stage, where you get to let go of your denial and inner rage. We're all here for you. Take the jar of glow paste into the kitchen to perform the farewell ritual . Use one hand to lift up the lid of your kitchen bin. With the other hand quickly launch the jar of glow paste into the bin and replace the lid. Whilst carrying out this action, chant loudly to the Tim Holtz Gods to recieve your sacrifice. Don't be afraid of expressing your frustration, anger and lots of swearing! The more the merrier! Make the Gods hear your cry! When you're finished, take a deep breath, hold it in, and then SLOWLY blow it out through pursed up lips. You should feel instaneous relief. All that is left now is to walk away from the bin vowing to never retrieve that bloody jar of crap! If you feel you might be tempted to rescue it, then be sure to throw the jar away with it's lid off. Then you'll need to add to the bin! Scrape out that dish of leftover Spaghetti Bolognese from the fridge, chuck away any uneaten dog food in the bowl, throw in the tissue you blew your nose into, sling in that bundle of household cleaning wipes you cleaned the toilet with, empty out your hoover bag, and top it all off with a ball of fluff from your tumble dryer filter....and any other gunk you wouldn't want to rummage through, and THAT should put paid to your rescue temptation! It's time to say goodbye. Remember the good times, focus on that. And send it off to glow paste heaven with a few words of remembrance. We're all with you. It's ok. We've all been there, we understand. We're here for you. If I may, I'd like to say a few words... R.I.P: Glow Paste. You were valiant and brave right to the end, when your life was cut so suddenly short. We will fondly remember your special way of lighting up our world. Even as we sat in darkness, you were there guiding us with your eternal light, bringing hope where there was none. We will miss seeing your cheery brightness around us, but it would be cruel if we refused to let you go. It was your time, and we take comfort in knowing, that at least now you're no longer in pain, and we can wish you a fond farewell. May you rest peacefully to eternity, sweet friend. AMEN.

Tim has always said that too much paste can cause to paste to lift from the paper. Don’t put too much paste, is what he means. That’s my only idea. I love all your work , what I’d do is glue a few layers of papers to get depth, sometimes 3-4 layers.

That is such a creative idea but I am afraid pastes are expensive to hide them behind the die cuts. I have an infinite amount of scraps and when I need dimension I die cut 4 or 5 extra pieces from my scraps and glue them together. Works much better than foam. Foam can yellow overtime, lose its grip and gets squished in the mail. Also, just as a little knowledge piece: paper will have a prettier tear when you do it with the same direction as the paper grain. In your case, the grain was vertically, that is why your tear looked better in that direction than the horizontal. Thanks for another inspirational video ❤

Oh my gosh Luise I just did this yesterday. But I die cut four flowers of the same and stacked them to raise them up and off set them. How funny you did this with the same flower die 😊😀 Luise your paper tore straight because it is with the grain of the paper it tears wonky when it is torn against the grain. When you fold a paper and it breaks, it’s because it was folded against the grain.

I love the paste because when you’re looking at it sideways, it just looks like it’s supposed to be part of the card where foam you would always see that white or black or whatever this just gives it a very unique way of doing it and foam is great for some things and I love that everybody comments and gives their ideas because some things i useduse for foam now and some things I will use the way you did it. Thank you for sharing.

Also the paper grain should go in the same direction as the vertical spine. If it goes horizontal with the spine (going in the opposite direction of the spine), the paper will have a tendency to crack and split over time. The more you fold, and open the paper against the paper fibers, the more it will start to break the fibers down. Then it will start to be come weak and start to fall apart. Just depends on the use of the book, and if you want it last a very long time. Your preference.

The texture paste does have two advantages over cutting the same die from fun foam or felt - the fact it dries transparent is definitely cool! And that it sets solid so will hold the shape & not get squashed at all once it’s dry. That might work really well for filling in the space for DIY embossed metal charms. I bought some really thin copper sheet to make some of my own embossed metal charms (using a dotting tool or even embossing folder), but you need to fill the back with wax to ensure it can’t get squashed. Wax can crack & fall out & isn’t easy to glue in place, but texture paste might do the same thing but be easier to work with over time 🤔 I must experiment! 😁 Ok three - the glow shadow effect is awesomely cool!

Great ideas! Here in the UK Christine Stokes showed a way of adding dimension to card flower petals by laying the die-cut upside down on some foam sheet and using a ball tool to make a dent at the base of each petal (where it meets the centre of the flower) and when it is turned over the petals are lifted up from the card. Thanks for giving us such good ideas x

Great idea and I see some other ideas below with felt and foam. Althoigh you can get really thing strips of foam that work in some situations FYI - Paper never rips the same way because of the grain of the paper. In fact if you know which way you want a card to stand or if you make a book or box for that matter with card stock (so it doesn't warp) - you have to go WITH the grain. If you go against it - it will warp, same with the ripping. It will rip straight with the grain. And u can figure out the grain by holding the paper open in your hand loosely and see which way it naturally bends... that is also the best way to fold paper without cracks! Yes, Luise you are correct! You are a genius! Another home run slam. Or we might say in the US, "You hit it out of the park, Luise!". I wonder if the reason the glow paste did not adhere is because the grit paste is "chunkier" than the other one. I wondered were you to do a second application of the glow in the dark just for that bit that did not adhere, after the first application was dry, if that would work? What I love bout watching you is not only your passion and dedication to the craft, but that you do things that make me think, "Oh wow! That is so obvious, why didn't I think of that?" Hi Luise. Paper has a grain. In newspapers, the larger-sized ones, rip down the page straight, but crooked going across. The paper you have was probably cut with the grain going from side to side because it was more of a money-making way to get as many sheets as possible cut from large pieces.

Luise, something that might help is if you push the glow paste hard into the 'stencil' and when it's all covered, then go back over again thick. The other thing might help is after the thin layer, let sit for a minute or two, with the stencil still in place, to dry just a bit and then go back with the thick coat. The only other thing that might be making it not work is maybe the 'glow substance' (whatever that is), because I noticed that the paste seemed to be picking up some of the brown color from the card and I didn't notice that on the snow paste. Just thoughts....

Luise, this is just a thought but if you notice in the snowflake paste, the same area is thinner when you lifted the stencil as well. The thinner areas of the stencil should have specific attention that there is enough paste in those areas. Try drying the paste a little bit before lifting the stencil up to see if your paste will remain in those thinner areas when the stencil is lifted that way the paste is harder and may stay in place when lifting the stencil up. I hope that works and you can do another video with the results you are looking for. Love you bunches and the card is amazing. ❤

First time seeing your channel, and I have to say I love it. You are hilarious...(dry like a fart and how many times can you freak out in a day) I actually laughed out loud😂😅. Love the cards. I'm sure you may all ready know, but Dr. Martin's bleed proof white is great for white splatters (just like it says, bleed proof). Love the mix media/grunge, but I struggle with it. You officially have another subscriber. Thank you for sharing your talent!

Cute card. I’m thinking the difference in the jagged tear and straight tear has to do with the grain of the paper.

I could see the glow paster picking up some of the distress color. Maybe if you sealed the card before adding the paste this would not happen and it might work.

Hi love .... HMMM? Could you try painting some clear gesso or matte medium through the stencil before adding the GLOW? The gesso especially might give it some "tooth" to stick on to???

This was fun to watch you experiment! I wonder if Tim or Ranger could answer your question. I'm also wondering why you use white paper as the "shadow", as you call it, and not black or very dark brown, to be the shadow of this brown flower? Thank you Luise!! I can't wait to hear the reason for the problem! (I did notice that the worst of the paste fail happened on the skinnier parts of the stem🤷)❤
