Found your channel recently and like what I've seen so far. I like the guitar string idea, I've used it as wiring conduit but never thought to use it as rebar. As a tip, when I'm doing similar work, rather than cut out several wires, I put the wire in the hole, glued or otherwise then clip it to length in place. Keeps the wires from flying all over the room and might save a little time. It also helps to embed the wire in whatever you are putting it in since clipping it puts a little force behind it.

Great idea with the guitar strings.

If you're using guitar strings, you'll want to get pretty heavy ones, either the low E for guitar, or better yet D or G strings from a bass. Just make sure you get steel or nickel wound, not flat wound as flat wound wont have the same ribbed texture..unless of course you want a smoother finish

Just a little tip, When using the Sticks you can rap them with small electric wire single stands to replicate the rebar look. It takes a little time and skill but it looks the part when done right.

Hi just a thought on the steel rods have you thought about using electrical wire from old electronics and stripping the plastic coating or even even just leaving it on and then paint

Something I'm messing with right now as I watch this video in fact, is cedar shims- they are for installing actual doors and come in small bundles- very cheap and I'm cutting scale lumber out of them with my utility knife.

This is a great how-to, thanks! How would you go about achieving the same effect in the center of a single piece? One large floor panel with a central hole? Or would it be easier to just make two halves and put them together?
@TheTerrainTutor
@TheTerrainTutor 10 жыл бұрын
Cheers mate. I'd just cut the hole out mate to be honest. If it's too fiddly, you could just cut it into two halves at that point mate

Hi 3T ... Ever done wooden floors? Or have any idea how to do wooden floor effects on foamboard? I'm looking to do some terrain pieces for the club and want to do some WW2 buildings, with wooden floors!

Use balsa wood mate, get a flat sheet, cut out your floor planks and then glue them down. Simples :oD

I know I'm super late but here in the States we have a chain called "Guitar Center", all they do is sell musical instruments of all kinds and about a hundred different strings for guitars. They can be a bit pricey though, but they're sure to have it AND some stores have ultra low end strings, bad for music but could be great for this. Also, (here in the States) Wal-Mart and Target can sometimes have a music section (where they sell a guitar or two and a couple electric keyboards) which typically sell 2 or 3 brands of guitar strings. Of course you can always Amazon guitar strings for the absolute lowest price, Bass guitar strings will be even thicker for heavy duty wires. Great tutorial and great advice. Envious though, you say a lot in your videos that 'this' place or 'that' shop will just give 'X' material away because they're done using them. This does NOT happen in the USA, companies would rather throw something away before giving it away to someone.
@TheTerrainTutor
@TheTerrainTutor 6 жыл бұрын
Ah, in the UK, they'd rather give it away, than pay for it to go in the rubbish mate

Nice tips and very effective, now how long did it take you to find the bits that went pinnnnggggg across the room ( we all know you did have the relevant safety goggles on whilst in the making of the video lol nothing worse than waking in the morning up with a 2" cocktail stick stuck in your eye lol. Keep up the great work mate :D
