FOBs are all I use on my hunting arrows when I hunt from a stand. I use vanes only when I'm in a blind with the shoot-through mesh. I wish we could post images in the comments, because I would show my 35yd shots with a 25mph Kansas crosswind using FOBs and vanes. The results are very telling.

Looks interesting, also the quick fletch option.. i'm pretty new into archery but want to go hunting too... here in The Netherlands its not popular also illigal to hunt over here.. That makes me to do many thing myself because we have a few shops in the country and not that many contacts to change info with. Just want simple stuff that won't break easily like a whisker biscuit and quick fletching to make it easy for me... Altough the pro's of a QAD ultra rest makes me doubt about my options here...

@l00nybin 4 жыл бұрын
Just because you're unfamiliar with it doesn't make it junk. They work incredibly well. The FOB is *designed to pop off* on contact with the deer. This affords: A. Easy marking where to start searching for blood B. Less drag on the arrow as it passes through since it doesn't have to drag the vanes through the body.

Sadly, IBO and ASA have banned them from competitions, so they haven't taken off as much as they could. Hi Sean, Did you keep using FOB's. There is a little trick you can do. Drill the little inner lip out of the FOB and slide it further up your arrow so they don't interfere with your anchor point. Then Glue in 3 spots on the front side so when they hit the animal they can still pop off.

The “extra” nock can come off (slowing your string) and use the fob as your kisser. The fob is awesome, controls broadheads fantastic!
@seansoutdoors
@seansoutdoors 4 жыл бұрын
The extra nock actually speeds up which is why they attach them near the top and bottom of the string ... I think it would be too awkward to use a FOB in place of the nock point.

Sean's Outdoor Adventures sorry i thought you were using a nock as a kisser button. Speed nocks or speed balls work well if you have a chrono and time to monkey around moving them ever so slightly for sure, on custom replacement strings that is, oem are standard. I love using my fobs as kisser buttons so to speak. Feeling that fob tells me anchor is perfect

I did a dozen arrows with the Bohning quick fletch (same thing) just to see how they do and they worked extremely well. Just get a pot of boiling water a least 9 inches deep and dip them in. They shrink very tightly, they will not move once set. The fletchings are in the right orientation, no issues whatsoever. A little expensive but so is buying all the stuff to glue them on. I would use them again.

Hi Sean I was considering looking into these FOB's as well as I'm going to an EFOC arrow build this year for Whitetails and thought they may be convenient to tune up an arrow of different spine(s) to get one flying well with 18% + FOC. In a few of your videos ago (I can't remember which one but I think it was during one of your reviews of the Expedition bows) you said you will be trying turkey hunting with archery gear for the first time this year. I really enjoy it but I am curious as to what broadhead you will be shooting? Are you going the route of many and just using your whitetail setup or will you be trying something like a Magnus Bullhead to just aim at the head and neck? My current setup is a Grim Reaper Whitetail Special Mechanical which opens up 2" wide upon impact. I do not use that for whitetails though. I am no longer using mechanicals on deer anymore as I am interested in the heavy arrow EFOC benefits but was wondering what your gear choices will be for Spring Gobblers!! That would be an interesting video.

Let me guess, you only hunt with a bow you have been from ash yourself, with turkey feathers you have personally plucked and prepared for fletching? Technology advances in every area of life, and archery is no different. Compound bows, aluminum arrows, plastic vanes, stainless steel boradheads, mechanical broadheads... Now, the fletching has been improved. An aerospace engineer designed the FOB, and it works fantastic for stabilizing broadheads faster and not being affected by crosswinds as much. It also marks the spot where you can start tracking when it pops off as the arrow passes through the animal. I put a reflective wrap on mine, so finding them in the dark is incredibly easy.

@l00nybin
@l00nybin 4 жыл бұрын
@@HardRockMiner I have no problems with arrow stabilization, but physics is physics: A. floppy vanes will not start an arrow spinning (the stabilizing force) as fast as rigid vanes. The FOB has rigid "vanes" inside the ring, so it stabilizes faster than vanes will. B. A 2" high-profile vane like the Blazer vane will catch more crosswind and be affected more than a FOB that has a total crosswind profile of 1/2". I've seen the results myself, have pictures of it, but KZbin doesn't allow us to post photos in the comments.
