Although I thought these were junk. I do keep a few in my bag on extended trips. If I clip a vane or arrow isn’t flying right I can rip the other two off and slide a FOB on. They’re good for in a pinch, not much beyond that IMO. 🤘🏻🏹

I think if you're a long range archer dropping some big dollars for out west or highland mountain hunts I can see the benefit of these on those hunts in the wind where you only get a few days to hunt and you've got to make every opportunity count.

When I first started shooting a compound bow I bought FOBs for the simple reason that you can break 2 sections of the ring and they will still fly straight. Just get a wave in a vain and see how your arrows flys

Allie suggestion, I believe you could drimel out the end to slide up an inch, and secure with a spot of rubber cement glue. This should take away face touch/pop off issues. (2) If you have the green have you tested it under the black light? My mossy oak nocks reflect the uv light from flashlight at night from 15 yards. I have ordered some FOBs and will test soon. I just finished painting on my bow, love it! It's only for target practice and was only $80 anyway. Shortly to get single pin sight, drop away, and range finder. Rhineheart calls!

I have a dozen and haven't had any problems with em. The thingsI've noticed is at longer distances they drop a bit more then my 4 fletch and might change your anchor point because the Fob sits so far back.. at least further back from my AAE vanes. Definitely like the simplicity. Can't group shoot em but that's not a problem. Yes they've been out for a long time now but just recently started to pop off again. 👍🏽👍🏽. One thing for sure is they definitely buck the wind like a champ. Put em out to 80-105 yards in high crosswinds and didn't have any problems... Great review and keep em coming....

For someone not wanting to do a wholesale change over, these would be a great addition to a hunting pack in the event that you loose a fletching while out in the field and you don't have the ability to re-fletch the arrow out in the field. You could remove the other fletchings and install one of these to get you back to a full quiver until you get home.

If you are worried about the string angle, face, or arrow loss problem, you could simply slide FOB on the arrow, and put a small piece of shrink tube behind it to hold it forward a bit. NTE electronics makes shrink tubing that has adhesive on the inside, a 3-1 shrink ratio, and can be purchased from Amazon. I can't say whether it would work for this, but It should. However, if it doesn't pop off the arrow, you may not get a pass through. Though with turkey that can be a plus.

Allie ..I’m impressed with your presentation, articulation, ability to communicate with your followers etc . I really liked your video on cutting up a deers rear leg quarter..It’s a chore getting by the silver skin. I have a little knowledge in archery like I’ve been shooting since I’ve been 10 years old. Now that I’m 87 I look 👀 back at past state, regional and national Championships of which I’ve won … Instinctive, 3 fingers under , then compound and presently my crossbow.With over 💯 whitetail deer harvested.. I have shot with World class champion Ann Weber Hoyt and Howard Hill..I’ve been an Olympic Archery Coach and it’s time for a few suggestions for you ..Your release is flawless…but… no way use a kisser button unless you weren’t using a release which is causing your draw length to be longer .. With the kisser button on it allows you to touch your nose ..and now you can see the complete alignment of your shaft with the bullseye which is critical.. nuff said for me except I retired from the vertical bow at 17 Robin Hood’s .. To do it over I would have stayed with traditional 🏹 archery .. If I may say in passing by..””YOUR CUTE “”P.S.- Please be careful when sliding your hand back/forth on your carbon shaft if it’s fractured.. Your aware of splinters, right ?

Nice Review. I have been shooting FOB's for years and still shoot fletched arrows and FOBS. One thing you didn't mention is they are great for traveling. Package all the FOBs up and don't have to worry about bent fletches after cramming your case full. When I shot a deer the FOB fell off and marked exactly where she was standing and made an easy pass through with a bare shaft ! Defiantly worth having in the tool kit !

Agreed I got two packs and I’d throw them in the trash before I’d give them away! They’re fun just to shoot and play with but for hunting or target shooting standard fletching is better. They tend to be hard to shoot for starters because of the anchor point. They are trash and a waste of money

After I watched some video where a dude ripped one of these fobs apart and it kept shooting well decided to pass on these.. I think he was trying to highlight the selling point that they can get very badly damaged and still fly great,but in reality to me it just proved that the shape and so on has actually nothing to do with how well an arrow flys..

I have used FOBs in the past & may use them again. They def have pros and cons. Pros= They steer fixed blades better than anything, they do reduce wind drift at hunting distances, they are easy to replace in the field, arrow spine is less critical with these. Cons= Not great for grouping(although they still fly great damaged), can be an issue with face contact, more arrow drop at longer distances, have to use a full drop away rest.

FOB's were designed to fall off when shooting a deer, hog etc so as to get a full pass thru. Two wound holes cause the animal to expire faster. A lot of people don't think about the fact that when a deer gets wounded with just a entrance wound and no exit wound, they will crash and lay down and actually pack dirt in the wound to make a bandage the only way they know how, using the dirt for a bandage. When their blood pressure goes back up and they feel better they get up and run off and you don't find them, only where they were laying. With two holes , it is hard for the animal to patch both wounds, and they lose blood too fast and expire much quicker. More humane and quicker way to take a animal. As far as losing the bare shaft when the FOB falls off, you could always use a lighted nock to find the bare shaft. There are new nocks now that will strobe on and off really fast, much like the flashing lights of a police car. That would be easier to spot daytime than just looking for a regular lighted nock. Just my thoughts. I did enjoy the video.

In a pinch you can sharpen a stick fire hartnett on the tip cut a knock in one end and carefully strip the bark back in a few spots just thick enough that won't break off and it will take the place of fletching! 1, it seems like you have your draw too long, take maybe a half inch out. 2, don't be slapping the trigger on the release. It's a very bad habit and can lead to inconsistent results. Try using your back muscles to pull your hand thru the release and the shot will break.

luminok helps with retrieval. the biggest advantage of FOB. is they will keep a straight flight path at distance
@grayeaglej
@grayeaglej 5 жыл бұрын
Do you mean using Luminoks instead? Because FOBs pop out the knock during a passthrough, the knock is what holds them onto the shaft, so a Luminok would be no help in finding your shaft and point. Best you could do is paint your shafts blaze orange I guess.

I have used these on and off for yrs. I jumped on when they 1st came on the market. I did have good luck hunting with them. I had the issue with them affecting my anchor point but they did fly great. I still used a wrap on my shaft which helped finding the shaft after pass through. Just place the wrap up 1" to allow room for the fob. Enjoying your videos

Thanks for the review. I'd expect more stabilization and flight time. Arrow slowing down faster due to round air foil but then flying longer due to aerodynamic lift. Please do a side by side and check field point depth as a guide on how much energy was left in the arrow.

Big problem with fletching if you are starting out is that you need a jig. The only jig I have used that allows me to do the full range of things I do is the Blitz, which a lot of people find pretty expensive when they start out. On the flip side, even if you only shot compound, you clearly can't use these in most competitions where you either are shooting groups, or you are shooting with other archers into say a 3D target. If people hit this thing, it will get damaged. And if you hit their arrow, it could pull the fletchings off it. It would also be something I don't want shot through my chrono, which is part of the entry in a lot of competitions. Also, it is not going to fold down if it hits some unseen brush.

Vinyl wrap your arrows. Clean wrap with 90% isopropyl alcohol and let dry. Get blazer vanes and clean with alcohol. Get arizona mini ez fletch (I use right helical). Use gorilla gel super glue. You can't pull the fletchings off with pliers. I've hit a soft spot in the target and had my arrow pass through the target and through the wall of a plywood shed, and the fletchings are tore up but still on the arrow.
@tonygillahan

How good is the EZ Fletch mini! I use the same except use Loctite superglue gel, no mess and sticks well 👌
@MrShysterme
@MrShysterme 5 жыл бұрын
@@tonygillahan Yep, that mini puts such a good helical on my arrows. Like perfect if I do my part. Better than my more expensive jigs. Plus it is so fast and easy. The only issue is if you put on too much glue and it gets on the little plastic arms, which also tears a little chunk off my vinyl wrap. I would pay more for an all metal ez fletch mini with some coating that glue doesn't stick to. I'd probably give close to $50 or more for that. The gel superglues are impact resistant so they are not brittle and flex. I think we both found that out but use different brands. The gorilla can also come with a little applicator brush which makes precise application easier. Are you using these with vinyl wraps? The glue sticks so much better to the wraps and if you need to refletch no scraping your expensive arrows, just peel that sucker off! (which can be tough because my bohning wraps are realllllllyyyyy on there) It took me a couple years of trial and error and reading online to figure all this out. I also use gorilla gel superglue for my inserts. They aren't coming out. Never lost an insert with it. When I used "special insert glue" I lost inserts. You just have to know that that arrow is done. You'll never get that insert out if you want to for some reason.
@tonygillahan
@tonygillahan 5 жыл бұрын
@@MrShysterme I don't use wraps, nah mate. I find the vanes stick to my arrows better without wraps 👌 each to their own though! I know what you mean about the plastic arms on the mini and having to be careful with the glue, that's why I like the gel because it's so controlled and no excess. I just get the gels from a hardware store to and they're so much cheaper than specific archery glues!

Great video and I was thinking about those really for 1 reason. I hunt CO... It's ALWAYS windy. I'm assuming that in 10 years, they improved the product. I'm really 50/50 on whether I want it to pop off on a pass through. I use lighted knocks and can see them clear as day hitting (or missing) my target also in recovery of my arrow. Shot a deer with my lighted knock at 50 yards quartering away a tad. Arrow went through and just barely hung in the far side of the deer. Deer took 2 jumps, arrow came out. Had a perfect line of where I shot the deer and where it ran due to I could see the arrow. Picked up a straight blood trail and got my deer. So, I don't know..??

My first question when I saw them on your arrow was the pass-through situation. Popping off seems somewhat unlikely to me, plus seems like a big disadvantage. What’s wrong with traditional fletching? I can’t see why this “upgrade” is helpful or necessary.

You should consider getting a coach to help you with your form. Your front shoulder looks a little compressed which is due to how you’re drawing the bow. Which in turn puts your anchor point to far back & causes you to collapse during the shot. Correcting this will help you hold more steady. NockOn Archery with John Dudley has some great videos. Just my two cents anyways. Practice Practice

My primary concern with these is that the knock is not going to hold them tight enough to the shaft to get true spin stabilization, they are just too loose and there will be some pinwheeling, especially with higher poundage bows.

Eugene, as long as your nocks aren’t extremely tight, pass through is not an issue. Actually there is less resistance during pass through since the arrow is bare after the FOB pops off. As far as finding your arrow most guys and gals use fluorescent or reflectice arrow wraps.
