Nice Video 👍 We were there last month, my sister's friend grew up in Fobbing and she told me that her and her brother used to play in that shelter all the time as kids :)

A good time for it! Start at the manor way roundabout and follow the track north through Oozedam Farm. The decoy is then along a public footpath through the fields

@@BeyondthePoint Had a wander today was surprised by the amount of concrete and brick from long gone structures along the way..... there must have been considerably more there back in the day....

The making of Cordite and Nitro Glycerine involes a lot of heat from chemical reactions. If the reactions get to hot a 'High Order' event takes place. To you and me a bloody great bang. Water is essential for cooling the process. Nitro was also moved from building to building by gravity on open wooden troughs.

All the land you have just covered was owned by Mobil Oil Company and then BP followed by Petroplus. Since Coryton Refinery closed I'm not sure who owns it now. The farm was looked after by a tenant farmer (his name escapes me) for many years and he used to keep Percheron horses. When he suddenly passed away in about the mid 80's I don't think anyone else took over the farm and it was left to go to ruin. There is more information on Kynoch Town and the munitions factory in a booklet called "Coryton History of a Village" by Winifred N Scott. She was born and raised in Coryton which was demolished when the FCC Complex was built from 1977 onwards. The tall FCC Stack (chimney) which you see today marks the edge of what was the village. The booklet was published by Mobil and for those of us who used to work there it was a fascinating insight into the history of the place.

nice vid, some good finds. It's a great place to explore, I'm guessing you managed to avoid the cows... (field between abandoned farm and flood barrier)

We certainly did, luckily they were at the other end of the field on this occasion!

Hi Lisa great to hear from you, hope you're keeping well! Yes it did take some time to find the Kynochs stuff, had to use the old maps from a CLR book.
