I was born in Leigh on Sea and lived there for the first 21 years of my life, then moving to Southchurch, before moving right away with work. My late mother used to save coins and what little spare money she had for donations to Nazareth House. I often wondered what was behind those high walls and I used to find it rather intimidating. Fascinating then, some 50+ years later, to see inside thanks to you......I had the impression that it was not always a happy place.

It's makes me sad seeing how it was, how we saw it and now that it's gone 😢 great video Liam!

There must be very few of these places left that haven't been converted in to flats or demolished. At least ones that have been converted reserve some of the history and architecture.

Really interesting and well documented…I wonder what happened to the beautiful altar and stained glass? I’m guessing some materials are sent to local reclamation yards? Surprised it wasn’t turned in to flats but probably more lucrative to demolish it completely…a great shame it was not considered to be of any historical value. Thank you ❤

It seems that anything that holds any historical or architectural merit or significance in Southend and the borough, gets knocked down eventually. Usually replaced with something entirely uninspiring. We honestly must have one of the worst councils in the Country! Great video though lads, thank you for that! Always wanted to see inside that place and you have preserved some of it and its history when the town (City😂) couldn't be bothered too.

Went there yesterday but most of it was being demolished so you know any other abandoned places like that in southend

Such a shame it’s gone like this. Beautiful 😍 hope they try to save some of it and reuse

I can feel the peace in the chapel when you opened the door. Why would someone demolish Gods house? Our heritage is being destroyed for greedy developers. Thank you fir keeping this on record for us.❤❤❤

Back in the 80's I worked at Nazereth house not long after it stopped being an orphanage. They kicked the kids out and made the rooms into luxury flats. I can see some of the things I worked on in the video. The nun who was running the place at the time, used to spend money like it was going out of fashion.

Unfortunately not, the age alone isn't enough to qualify

Very sad that it was not of any historic value. The way it was built and the craftmanship was amazing. The utter drivel in quality being built now is 10 steps backwards.

Lovely video, thanks for sharing. Nazareth Homes were orphanages first and foremost, they only became care homes much later. When I read about the Nazareth Homes I always remember a quote from Judith kelly's book 'Rock me gently' that chilled me. She said she felt she was "hemmed in by evil". Evil people worked in these places and they destroyed children's lives. Good riddance
