Apparently spring cleaning is in order today! Jackie and Shadow deliver 13 sticks/fluff with their usual antics.
🥚Jackie and Shadow have withdrawn from their unhatched eggs. On 4/11, one egg was broken and disappeared in the bowl. It is unclear if there was any development inside. On 4/13, Jackie consumed at least one remaining egg (no signs of development). The last (third) egg still remains in the nest (hidden in fluff).
We have no way of knowing why the egg did not hatch. It could be environmental, such as temperatures, humidity percentages, oxygen levels at high altitude, etc. It could be biological with something just being off at the time the eggs were created. It is very unlikely that either Jackie or Shadow are infertile since they have already had 2 sets of chicks together - in 2019 and 2022.

Some wonky sticks just don't want to fit in the nest but it is fun to watch the wrangling to try to make them fit. I think Jackie is the best wonky stick wrangler around; even Stickman can't beat her. I can't help but wonder about the reason for these major renovations but time will tell. In the meantime, it is delightful to watch them. That was some plane that flew over them, so loud! Thanks for a great video, Cali, it was wonderful. 😊

Please understand that she is not fertile until November. They are preparing the nest for next season, which is between Nov-Mar. This is nature, they are not trying or able to have another clutch this season

Cali, I have a question: You said Jackie won't lay more eggs because her fertile season is Jan through March. I read the female bald eagle can become fertile again within the same breeding season if her eggs fail to hatch. They are mating and acting like they're preparing the nest. What do you think?

Eagles bond over sticks and working in the nest together. Eagles are also compulsive nest builders and the nest is always a work in progress. Jackie is fertile January-March and it's likely too late for a 2nd clutch.

@@AnderMc60 eagles nesting seasons vary due to photoperiodism, which means the amount of available sunlight that will trigger hormones. The most southern eagles lay their eggs first whereas the most northern eagles lay eggs last. Jackie lays eggs January thru March based on her zone as well as her history of egg laying. Also, eagles basically can be fertile 3 months of the year, approximately 1 month apart. If they lay eggs that first cycle and then incubate for 35 days, you would now be in that 2nd cycle, but because she is incubating the hormones are shifted to incubation she won't lay any more eggs while incubating. If those eggs are gone/broken/buried in the nest soon after laying, she may be able to lay a 2nd clutch, but those eggs must be gone early after laying so the hormones can shift from brooding back to laying eggs during that next window of fertility. It is a timing issue. Since she incubated 70+days, the hormones shifted out of brooding too late to catch her 3rd month to lay eggs again since we are now at the end of April.

This Chanel is live stream. All moderators with additional FOBBV channels do one good thing for us : they summarize the content for a day, so instead of watching, say, 12 hours, you watch 30 min of action with great commentary as well. It takes a lot if work to do those video compilations for us.
