I feel for Jackie, every time she tries to nestle in, in that snow I think BURR! I'd get up too. These 2 eagles have the most beautiful feathers, they look like velvet. I'm glad Shadow brought a gift for Jackie. ❤❤

*Fantastic gift, Shadow!* 🎁 💘 There's those hormones, again! ❤ Now, Jackie knows that his hormones are ready for the tasks ahead.... incubating/providing/parenting. For new viewers... not every food item brought to the nest, by a male, is a "food gift". Food gifts tell the female that he is ready, and willing, to share the tasks required to raise chicks, which only happens during their nesting/mating season. The male will do the lion's share of providing food, so, it's a big and important promise. S knows his Mate--starting her famous' Food gift vocal Theatrics' by dragging the gift some distance from her and dropping it for her. Guess here is he is pulling all stops out to encourage an Egg frame of mind with her physiology. We all know she is wanting to lay , but Nature can be a hard taskmaster for our Eagles to persevere and succeed each year. Hoping for an Egg/Successful Hatch/Successful Fledge Nest yr. Wow, Jackie has some formidable talons! They really show up against the white snow. I notice that the Stick Depot tree is almost devoid of sticks. They have basically transported that tree to the nest. This wonky one probably came from there, because that's about all that's left.

Notice how the snow falls onto her back, but *does not melt!* That shows how very well her feathers insulate her from the cold. Her body warmth is contained by her feathers.

Any idea why Jackie and Shadows nest bowl is all sticks and no soft grasses? Do they bring any soft grasses for their nest? I'm sure eagles are probably different in the way they do their nests

linda--This Q comes up quite often. J & S like a lot of sticks mostly for things other than structural support. They will bring grassy fluff from lake margins when the Eggs are laid or J senses Eggs are imminent. Don't be concerned. Type in an old Cali' Spirit' video from a few yrs ago , and see what she grew up with on floor of Nest. Many nests down South have an abundance of Grassy nest fluff. And on other hand, not that many sticks except on outer rail locations.

🦜Looks difficult to lay eggs and even to raise an eaglet, right? Especially when S loves his sticks and decorating their nest 😂 It always made me wonder when I first started watching J&S a few yrs ago and wondered "how can it be possible" to raise a family with all those sticks everywhere. They've made it work, and the center will be cleared out in due time 😊. I like watching Shadow decorating!!!!

Perhaps, perhaps not. But remember this: Neither the male nor the female, nor their offspring have ANY idea that they have been named by observers they do not even know exist! And on some sites, I see eagles or other birds given alphanumeric designators, like F23 or M87 or E19. That might be more scientific, but it also does not allow for 'emotional' attributes to manifest among observers. If it were not for observers, we would know so much LESS about these wonderful creatures. Besides. To themselves, they have names. He is "Ekk ekek EEq!" and she is "Krrk ekk KRWW". The 'ekk' is a patronymic, but as a very VERY common name among bald eagles, it does not necessarily connote consanguinity.

Shadow was thoughtful to bring a fish to the nest for Jackie. Jackie took advantage of eating the fish. I really liked the wonky stick. So many little twigs to break off. I'm wishing Jackie a clutch of eggs and Eaglets to hatch.

I think she's hoping to use Raven feathers this year 😊No, for J&S it is all about the engineering of the framework. Fluff comes later after the shouting has stopped about the stick placement.
