Focal Reducer (Pixco, Roxsen) - Canon FD to Micro Four Thirds adapter review.

I give a quick review and my thoughts on the Pixco Focal reducer for Canon fd mount to Micro Four Thirds. I also show some sample photographs using the focal reducer and my four Canon fd lenses.
All video shot in 1080HD and edited using Cyberlink PowerDirector 15.
This video was recorded on my Canon 80D with a Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 lens.

I use my Canon FD 135 2.8 on my Pen-f, with an adapter, but I don't get results like you do with that reducer. So, if I use that reducer, what will the focal length be on my 4/3 camera? Is it 60% of 135 or 60% of 270?

It should be around 195mm full frame equivelant so 135mm *2 for the crop factor = 270mm * .72 of the focal reducer which = 194.4mm and increase the light by a stop to f/2. Hope this helps.

@@mudgie069 why not simply just go 135 * 0.72 = 97.2? Getting the 35 mm equivalent after that is easy, simply multiply by 2. though I have no idea why you need the equivalent. When we used to shoot medium format or large format cameras, we never converted everything to a 35 mm equivalent.

@@mudgie069 Your answer doesn't match the descriptions from your video, that is, you say a 135mm f/4 becomes a 97mm f/2.8 (full frame FOV equivalent). That is, Gordon Reiher says he has a 135/2.8, so it seems he's in the same case as yours, that is, it will look like a 97mm in 135-FOV-equivalent.

I don't think you are calculating the focla length correctly, a 28mm lens on mft is 56mm effective, and that is 40mm with the reduction, not 20mm. Light also doesn't go from the native to less than native, that speed also is doubled then reduced by 71% or whatever. Info like yours confuse people and make them think it will speed up the lens itself, when it is just focussing some of the lens that otherwise isn't used in the crop view, increasing the light that was otherwise cut out by the crop. I don't get why you guys, not just you but most, don't understand this before doing a review.

Brian, what you call effective, or what most people call the equivalent focal length, isn't a number that has anything to do in real life with micro 4/3 systems. It's just there to make it easier for people to understand vis-a-vie the more familiar 35 mm system. Think of it as mental training wheels. Howie's is math seemed good to me. simply multiplier a focal length in this case a 28 mm by 0.7x, and you get a number that rounds up to about 20.

So, in 35mm format terms, your 50mm f1.4 lens is now approximately a 70mm f2 If you are using a micro 4/3 camera(which has the 2x crop factor sensor)
