Early 1973, I am at Leicester travelling to De Montfort Hall to see Focus in concert, four of us walking from the train station minding our own business, a van stops and the guy in the passenger seat asks the way to De Montfort Hall, avid Focus fans and the fact he spoke English with a Dutch accent told us we were speaking to none other than Jan Ackermann, we said we were going there, so we all jumped into the back, and not only did they get us there, we went in with the band, and were with them all night.... what a memory

High school in Copenhagen in 1973-75. We partied a lot. I remember dancing to this just after I had met a pint of King George V, Scotch... after this song King George and I parted ways in the bathroom. Great music, and an ok party....

When I was 16 I played guitar in jazz-sessions and with bands of my guitar teacher. She brought me to Jan Akkerman's studio and I got to jam a little with him. Then I knew I had a lot to learn. Now I'm 54 and still learning...

I remember this as my brother use to jam to it in the basement and do the singing he could handle it , I didn’t say yodel but he could sing it. I use to laugh. He was 14 or 15 , I was 12 or 13 back in 74. Too cool!!!!!!!!

It was '72. I first heard it as a junior in HS, driving to school in my '61 Plymouth Valiant wagon (worth every penny of the $25 I paid for it). I had the same expression as Kel when I first heard it too

i played this on my facebook live shoe and people freaked OUT! many people had heard it but forgot the name and who played it, In the early 70's this was the opening theme for Cincinnati reds games on TV. I still can see Caesar Geronimo throwing out a runner from center field as he fell on his belly!!!

In the early 1970's, there was a Singer Sewing Shop (yes, sewing machines) near my house that for some reason sold new release 45 rpm records. I would go there all the time and get some new tunes to play and one day this record "Hocus Pocus by Focus" popped up. Didn't know anything about it, just bought it anyway. Later on that night I put it on my little record player and listened. Then I listened again. And again. This was nothing like I ever heard before. I was a Beatles fan and listened to pretty much everything, but this was so different (and good). To this day I still have it in my playlist in my car. Just an insane little tune.

I saw Joe Walsh on his The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get tour at Texas Hall at the University of Texas Arlington. Focus opened up for him. After Joe finished his set both bands got together to jam. Freaking amazing!

I grew up listening to this on vinyl, most mornings over my Rice Crispies every morning before school . We used to request this one from my prog rock loving dad. I'm 40 now and this and the live still make me giggle BUT I have a huge appreciation for all forms of rock I guess, because of my childhood influence . lot of this kinda out there prog but also Yes, ELP, Rory Gallagher, Jethro Tull, Marillion, Led Zep etc etc

They did a live version of this and Sylvia on Old Grey Whistle Test in 1973 (it was a BBC TV platform for singers and bands in England). It is great fun watching them, because they are pretty much stoned.

I want to see their reaction to the track that follows this, 'Le Clochard'. It's only a couple of minutes long, but the combination of classical guitar and mellotron produce the musical equivalent of a Van Gogh masterpiece.

Hi Kel and Rich, Sitting here in the UK and have just watched your Focus vid. Great reactions and I was the same when I saw them live at The Greyhound Croydon in November 1972. I was 20 years of age then! At the end of an extended Hocus Pocus the drummer leapt over the complete drum kit. To this day I don't know how he did it!
