The needle rifle can headshot. Focus rifle can't because if a constant beam weapon like it or the sentinel beam could it'd be way too op for the game balance. Simplest solution is base it on the beam rifle instead but then why not just make it the beam rifle.

The DMR kills faster, the needle rifle kills faster, the concussion rifle blinds your enemies, and the shotgun has instakill potential. Literally every weapon is better except for the stock AR and the Plasma Launcher against people.

You know thinking about it the focus rifle could have been the covanant equivalent of the SAW. While the SAW focuses on medium to short range surpression, the focus rifle focuses on medium to long range surpression.

That’s probably what the covvies designed it for. If it akin to the forerunner Sentinel beam (which was also designed for use against the flood) then the Covvies probably reverse engineered that to produce their own anti Flood gun, adding a little Covenant pizazz to it.

I think the focus rifle replaced the beam rifle in Halo:Reach to make Jackal Snipers more balanced. In lore the Focus Rifle should be devastating powerful, possibly even powerful enough to melt vehicles due its usage of focused plasma (or particles).

It is its used by the covenant as an anti vehicle weapon. If the beam rifle is anti infantry this is anti vehicle.

It was also to bring greater distinction to Covenant sniper and UNSC sniper, the beam rifle was really not that much different in comparison compared to most UNSC Covenant weapon counterparts.

I still think the 'imitative, not innovative' trait for the Covenant still holds true with this weapon. In the same way the Plasma Pistol is a close mimicry of a Forerunner handheld weapon, the Focus Rifle mimics the Sentinel Beam extremely closely, making the weapon an imitation even if the plasma medium isn't the same as the sentinel beam's.

yeah, the covenant literally have stagnated for over 2000 years, because they simply "cheated" in the technology tree and obtained and reverse engineered forunner technology, 2000 years is an immense timescale for technological development for a post industrial civilisation, humanity clambered its way through industrialisation and reached a technological level which was able to actually put up a fight against the covenant. This was only in 5-600 years, whereas the covenant were literally given god technology possibly almost 1,000,000 years in advance to what they previously had. Not to mention it seems that before the formation of the covenant the sangheli and san'shayuum had advanced spacefaring capabilities possibly at the level of the UNSC in 2552. Thus it is immediately obvious that the entirety of the covenant is literally incapable of innovation as they had a head start from humanity in excess of over 2500 years. When the covenant were expanding their empire across the stars our species were literally worshipping cats and waging wars over ocean access and fertile farmland, meanwhile comparatively the covenant were colonising thousands of worlds and waging what would look like god wars with other species across the stars AND yet humanity who had arisen to a spacefaring level 2500 years later were still able to resist them and defeat them by crippling their internal structure, a system of governance which had held for 2000 years! AND THEY STILL LOST. Very strange the state of technology in the covenant is.

If they add the focus rifle in infinite, a couple of things to change/add 1. A stun effect akin to HCE plasma rifle 2. Higher damage 3. Slight EMP effect to vehicle/shields 4. At the time of releasing the trigger an overcharge bolt fires dealing extra damage(only when firing until overheating)

The focus rifle was hands down my favorite weapon in Reach. Grabbed it every chance I got and used it more as a midrange weapon like the Assault Rifle with occasional use as an ersatz DMR. I so wish that there was a way to reload it in game so I didn't have to constantly abandon the weapon.

On heroic and legendary, I liked using it as a medium to long range Elite shield sapper. Then I'd follow up with a headshot from a needle rifle or dmr.

In a novel the focus weapon actually seems to be a covenant anti material weapon. They use it on warthogs and blast them into pieces. So it's actually VASTLY more powerful than its game depiction as with most covenant weapons.

The focus rifle was also encountered during the Blue Team mission in 2526 during the operation to retrieve a downed covenant ship. It was used by Shangheli troops to melt hard points on light armored craft, such as the UNSC prowler Night Watch.

Unrelated to the Focus Rifle, but I’ve been thinking about Infinite, the Banished, and the Harbinger. Do you (anyone reading) suppose that, since the Banished aren’t a massively huge mega packed organization, that Banished units in Infinite will kinda serve as the pinnacle of enemy forces? Like, we’ll fight the regular Elites and Jackals and what not, then Banished units will show up and put up more of a fight, the way Zealots did in Winter Contingency and Tip of the Spear? I know this is a bit difficult to read, as I can’t comprehensively type out my thoughts, but I think it’d be cool if Banished enemies essentially took the role of high ranking units. Maybe a normal brute minor takes two to three melee hits to kill, but Banished units require three to five, and of course, have access to better equipment and superior strategy- things like that?

Thanks for making this video! I agree this Focus Rifle is more like a particle rifle that plasma rifle! This is probably the most underpowered weapon in the Halo franchise. The physics of this particle rifle are so powerful (in realistic physics) that not only will it turn-to-ash anyone it touches, but armor plating and vehicles would melt by it! On the subject, the developer was biased between UNSC and Covenant tech. Technically Covenant tech is more powerful because it’s mostly based on energy. As opposed to humans’ “still throwing metal rocks” Whether it’s super-heated plasma or particle based, either tech is still superior to Human ballistics. I used to love the heck out of this design! I’ve always thought the developer underpowered Covenant tech and was always disappointed by it, and also the limitations of their game-engine and physics engine ☹️👎

Theory on this thing: Compared to the beam rifle it fires a very bright beam. To me that indicates a higher density plasma. On the beam rifle it's probably rather fast and high mass molecules just punching through the target. The low density beam makes magnetic containment (to counteract the electrostatic dispersion of the plasma) irrelevant. by having the individual particles move at relativistic speed, they can be meters apart yet arrive on target almost at the same moment. The issue is that unlike other plasma based weapons this means almost no thermal transfer of energy, effectively only damaging the hit area. The focus rifle might have been an attempt and alleviating that issue. But by having lots of energized plasma much less energy is available for accelaration and it's transmitted across a larger timeframe. On the plus side nothing is wasted through overpenetration.

I’m using it for my war map. I want a long range weapon that’s not instant kill, does poor vehicle damage, and is well telegraphed for balance. The map will have very limited or no sniper for humans. It might be good for draining the space fighters shields or keep them from recharging.

If you do some sandbox testing as me and my sisters did back in the day, you will discover that the focus rifle does not have infinite range, while the sniper, in vanilla forgeworld, *does*. It may not have the range to hit spacecraft at all with new boundary breaks.

The elites have the island and the humans are defending a base in between the 2 cliffs by red side of blood gulch. The other side has little activity unless the elites use the teleporter for a foot assault with light vehicles or come through the cave. It’s a safe place to recharge.....unless there’s an elite with a focus rifle in the forest or high on the cliff. The elites can also do this without worry but once those shields break they don’t recharge. This map should theoretically work. Lol

I low key lovesd using the focus rifle if you hit an enemy using a sniper then they can’t re zoom and therefore you can kick ass it’s pretty decent at close range but on hemorrhage you can’t camp in the back not enough range to get to the other side.

I want the focus rifle INSTEAD of the beam rifle. Why, well it's the same reason why I want the needle rifle INSTEAD of the carbine, it is much more unique than just point and shoot. While the needle rifle does just shoot the needles are far more intresting than just a plasma version of say the br or dmr. Now do noy get me wrong I DO LIKE the carbine and beam rifle, it is simply of my opinion that it is both more intresting and unique than the beam rifle as well as the carbine. Though that is simply MY OPINION, please disagree with me if you feel differently, but don't attack other people.

It's a decent mid tier weapon. Like the rail gun. It ain't as strong as rockets or the spazor but and a variant like arclight and its damn near a one shot. Apply that to the focus rifle like an infusion gel variant that could even partially melt vehicle armor. Shit you could do that to the concussion rifle or plasma launcher
