How about pulling focus on dialogues? Actors improvising? How can it choose to focus on a scene with 3, 4 actors in different layers?

YES. Yes it does auto focus. lol. This is a massive game changer of a kit for the industry.

Love how the guy sneakily dodged the question there at the end. But honestly whilst at the moment they're clearly making a product for the high end production market, I personally think they shouldn't completely dismiss the lower end either. If they were to strip the product down to just a more compact base sensor, a transmitter plus a RT follow focus unit, then market it as a universal external autofocusing system I'm sure it would certainly turn a few heads. Especially if they price it reasonably for the lower market, say between 800 to 1500.

Cheap enough that a full time focus puller could pay it off on single season of rentals

$8,800 for an ultrasonic telemeter and a microcontroller... that's it, I'm switching to the film industry.

I am gonna get so much hate for this but you can literally build a system like (hint: Arduino) this for less than $30-$50. They are selling this shit for $8800? WTF
@Loftikaz4 жыл бұрын
when u build stuff for film industry it has to be rock solid, imagine a director like Steven Spielberg telling him to stop filming because the focus thing isn't working properly. each minute wasted on gear problems cost them more
@dennypilot98564 жыл бұрын
Man if you create and start selling such system even for like $200, I'd buy in no time

I'm just trying to make a cheap cinetape version with arduino, the real bummer is the ultrasonic rangefinder itself, because the cheap ones do not offer a great range and i only found a module that's actually able to go to 7 meter and a half but it's only a single capsule unit and it's around 50 €, fortunately there's lots of chinese copies for less than 20 €, idk if they will perform the same but i think i will buy one soon. I'm also trying to build a wireless fiz unit, at this point i was able to make it with stepper motors in an open loop configuration, but now i'm building a proper closed loop system with dc/bldc motors and encoders, worm gearbox in an all 3d printed enclosure. My main goal is to make everyting as cheap as possible, open source with gerber files for proper pcb manifacture and stl files for 3d printing; the next add-on i will do is the cinetape rangefinder because i really want to make an ecosystem like the arri wcu-4 + umc-4 + udm-1, but not too much complicated with lens data profiles and calibration, however a complete integration of all the components. PS. A cforce mini rf and cforce mini system would definetly more compact and a lot cooler but is also a lot more complicated since every motor has a microcontroller and every motor has to talk with the main radio motor, but also the pcb design for the motors would have to be a lot smaller and compact, so all the components would have to be smd(i actually ave to try them out) with no tht, and that would definetly make it harder to solder, but maybe probably i could design it in the future.

i'm told they're now working on a bluetooth device which actually watches the film for the audience so they can go and do things more pressing such as shopping or tweeting about cats. finally, the burden of having to concentrate on anything is lifted from humanity.
