Fun fact: Once a Spartan man reached the age of 30, he was allowed to start a family. Yes, those Spartans were so badass they feared nothing.... Besides not getting their wives permission. Even on decisions a king makes that will effect all his people. But wifeys permission is what matters most. As eye rolling as that part was, the best interpretation is him getting her counsel/opinion/ vote on what he had already decided to do. Had she shaken her head no would he slink off with his head down leaving the messenger alive? Or he just wanted to make eye contact seeing as part of the reason the messenger was going to die was his disrespect of the queen and country. He had been plainly warned about choosing his words carefully. Was the nod yes really needed ? Right after she mouthed off to him no less. The line about "we should have sent our women to fight seeing how weak your soldiers are" was good. Plenty

I didn’t find that movie to be special at all. Perhaps you find it nostalgic because you were a kid but compared to Brave Heart and Gladiator. It is really not that memorable, especially when that kick and line is the only thing that the vast majority of people can remember about that movie 😮

@@daigorowolf2136 nah I remember a lot from the movie like the part where he is asked why he only brought 300 men against an army of thousands and then he asked what everybody did for work there were farmers, blacksmiths, etc when Leonidas asked the Spartans they all yelled in unison shit was chilling Everybody’s brain works differently they enjoy different things. To each their own lol

@@daigorowolf2136 my favorite moment is the whole first day of battle with their iconic Phalanx formation and the way they showed no Spartan died on the first day while obliterating three Persian waves. It's a timeless classic and I've rewatched it at least 40-60 times now. Many times even my whole friends group. It has many, many iconic scenes.

@@earthling_parth The quote, there are too many Persian soldiers they could block out the sun and Leonidas responds then we will attack them from the shadows is historically inaccurate. That quote belongs to General Ulchi mundok who created and destroyed a dam which resulted in massive losses for the advancing Chinese army which was at the very least 30 times bigger. Not only drowning but breaking up the formation of the Sui army making them an easy target for Koguryo cavalry. A small army of Koguryo (Korea) obliterated a much larger invading force Sui (China). 10,000 vs 300,000 is the small estimate to 30,000 vs 900,000 is the large estimate. The battle of Salsu was one of the most unique victories ever achieved anywhere that hardly anyone talks about. And at the time, when I was watching 300, I was completing my minor in East Asian studies in Uni as well as a major in Economics. Perhaps that’s the reason why I was biased when watching 300 as I hate embellishments or rather historical inaccuracies in movies or maybe it was the darkening and speeding up of the action scenes that annoyed me. I’ll try to watch it again on Netflix and let you know if 300 really gets the praise it deserves. But as it stands right now nothing in the movie stood out as remarkable and I find the movie extremely overrated.

I love this line - the best ever. Iconic movie, no one can replace Gerard Butler in this role. The emotion conveyed for this line was totally reflective of a Spartan King under threat : insolent, indignant, fortified for war exactly the way a Spartan warrior King would be. Thanks Gerard for bringing King Leonidas to life.

No, it's not. It is a good telling of the story of The Battle of Thermopylae, but it is nowhere near being anywhere near the best film ever. It's an action film, a modern, cgi one, inferior to the old action movies. It is also crammed with fake abs and ridiculous fight scenes. 👊💪 Gyms are for wimps dude, no Spartan would ever use a fucking gymnasium, for fuck's sake. They'd laugh at you.
