Debra Fileta wants to help people experience change in healthy ways. She warns about the typical pattern of changing a few externals in our lives (eg… lose a few pounds, read more books, etc), but not working on our “internal wiring” (eg… how we think, how we feel, and what we do with our thoughts & feelings). Debra believes change starts with a pause - in order to get on the same page as what the Lord wants to do. She encourages people to “own their own junk” rather than make comparisons with other people. She also explains why asking others for help is a good thing!

I've quit 6 addictions with the help of God, the Bible and prayer over the last decade. I have an addictive personality, so no matter how hard I tried by myself, I could not stop my addictions. I have one addiction left and it's the hardest one to beat because all the others could be stopped completely but this one is not able to be stopped completely. It's an addiction to food, or eating too much all the time causing obesity and diabetes. I am not being treated because I do not go to doctors any longer. I don't trust them. And I also don't want to start taking a drug for it every day. God will deliver me. One mistake I did when I began, besides trying to do it all on my own, was I tried to stop everything at once.

That’s big for me “don’t just ask anybody”. I tend to do that and I think it’s for me to feel “better about myself” knowing that just anyone does not know who I truly am. But asking my significant other that important question is more vulnerable and more scary!

Please pray for me. I've been struggling trying to come back to the Lord after years of backsliding. My feelings and thoughts of God being angry at me are so overwhelming I feel defeated. I know my thoughts, feelings, and daily distractions are what is hindering me. I've prayed and asked God to help me understand how to get this under control to get my life back in order. I believe He led me to hear this broadcast and I immediately ordered this book. Please pray for the Holy Spirit to give me the understanding I need to overcome that I may be able to truly walk with the Lord again. Thank you

Loved taking the time to hear this. I liked that the advice was practical, simple to understand (not so simple to do at times but we will get there 😊)

Um.... can I disagree with some things? I think we can start looking with a strong world view of: how can I change me? For eg, there was the part where it was mentioned, why not stand outside yourself and examine yourself, how do you talk to people, how do they respond to you? I find this an impossible task. A blind man can not see. His eyes need to be "Opened". So I guess in some instances this is important, but, would it be better to have the view that we do everything as if unto the Lord? And the scripture "do unto others as you would have them do unto you" and a whole bunch more (understatement). I'm all for the personal empowerment stuff, but there has been a mental shift in my mind the last few weeks. We are trained in corporates to examine our own behaviour because it is literally impossible to control the habits/reactions/anything of others within the terribly close environments we, today, work in. So we have had education from consultants (etc) who are not really teaching a Christ centered approach - simply because it was seriously needed. But, as Christians, there is a different dynamic that happens with the Holy Spirit living inside of us and the fact that we need to look outside of ourselves and to Christ. Yes, there is the need to be self aware to an extent, but there is this MASSIVE (indescribable) external force that is working on the inside of us. Not sure if I'm being super clear as I'm still wrestling with this, I think we need to watch our phycology textbooks carefully which point inward. True hope is found outside ourselves. A simple prayer that may take years to affect, because the tapestry of our souls is so intricate and the circumstances that always surround them, could be "Jesus, please change me". On habits, yes, be still and know that I am God - external focus...

I applaud your insights and with you that a great number of people who really need to change wouldn't even be led to so much as listen to this program much less buy a book about change or be able to accurately and honestly assess themselves and the behaviors they need to change. I happen to be drawn to all kinds of self improvement stuff but others in my life who I can see need for change in wouldn't even want to listen to this much less work on themselves so.... You are right. The most we can hope for and pray for for others and ourselves is that the Holy Spirit inspires us to do everything as thought it were to the Lord. God bless ✝️💟💜

I am following your line of thinking. I just got on here to comment to say there seems to be a conflict between saying we don't focus on external behavior modification and yet we're supposed to practice discipline. Aren't those the same thing? If we are going to have a Christian approach, isn't it the Holy Spirit that convicts and empowers?

Love, joy, peace….are fruits of the Spirit. Not gifts. We bear the fruits because of God’s Spirit in us. We operate in the gifts of healing, miracles, wisdom, words of knowledge, prophecy, tongues and interpretations of tongues because of the gifts of ministry we yield to. Gifts and fruits are not the same.
