well a big thank you for playing the bass straight into the vid, instead of talking about it for 9mins straight like most other vids :)

I own a Fodera Monarch and if you take the time to get to know all of its nuances and get it set just right to your specific tastes, it can provide you with almost any tone you need. I haven't even had mine a year, but already it seems I won't ever need another bass.

Glad you like it, so do I!

I am planning on doing that at some point. It will probably be later this summer. My good big amp is living at the club for some gigs this summer.

@1BassJohn I was able to line up a new one with about a 5 month wait. Quicker through a dealer if they have "build slots" already purchased.

I should mention the 2010 Pope pre in my other Fodera is the best I've ever had. Really nice to be able to adjust the EQ points, sound of the tone pot, etc. Its very musical! No surprise since Mike has great ears and is a great player. This older one isnt bad either and I have a bass coming with the Flexcore version that might even be better yet.

This Fodera bass will for sale in late May of 2012. I have just placed on order for a new one that will be done in July. This is a great bass, but I wanted one made for me. Email if you're interested.

@Defenderofeyre It is definitely on the darker/warmer side of things. I don't play "heavy" music anymore- (long time ago I did!). I bought it more for playing jazz, fusion, pop, latin. It kills on afrocuban gigs! I left my tweeter off on my amp in the vid and dialing it up does get me some more snap for slap, but it's not an out of the box slap bass like something with maple board or an ash body. I have a Sadwosky that I use for brighter sounds.

Beautiful bass and playing. Congratulations! I am considering ordering one, though I don't know if I can survive the 18+ Month wait for it! haha.

Actually it is still for sale! I have a new Imperial that was made just for me, which is a special thing because I picked out every component. Please see my review.

@Defenderofeyre By the way, my right hand technique produces a solid fundamental and not much attack- that's how I like it. Could sound more aggressive in the right hands, or with stainless steel strings.

@michaelbraunbass Yep- trying to get some more tritones in my playing. It's a bit forced right now but maybe it will be natural later on!

Unfortunately, the "tension" strap for the double strap is backordered and I haven't tried it yet. I generally do not stand with this bass though. It's not the heaviest Fodera, about 10 lb 6 ozs, but I have a chronic shoulder problem from some upright playing that gets aggravated by heavy basses. If I have to stand for a long gig, I'm using a Sadowsky five and have a Callowhill Junk 5 on order.

@Dankma Yep, it's definitely ash- sort of quilted/flamed looking! Very rare to see figured ash like this. The only other guy I know who has an ash top like this is an ash distributor from Arkansas who sells blanks to many high end bass makers, and he drooled over this top so much he remembered it from when it was made 4 years ago. Fodera does not offer it as a top normally AFAIK. It does look like maple at first glance.

Somewhere between the two, but it's really it's own thing. I'm not sure if all Fodera necks are like that or not though.

Yes, Damian not Peter, lol . . . I got to play with Peter once and study with his late bassist Dave Carpenter in LA- I guess I think of him first when I think Erskine.
@denverbass7912 жыл бұрын
I think it's called a "comfort strap"- it's neoprene. I have new Gruv Gear double strap by Peter Erskine that should be here in a few days actually that I'm hoping will be better!

you're getting a double strap because of the bass' weight? It's a bit too much strap for me ^^ but thx for the info and let me know how the double strap feels like eventually. beautiful fodera too :)

Do you know what material Fodera uses for their frets? I'd like them to build me a bass with stainless steel frets. I'm not sure if they use it or not.

Yes, Fodera version of Mike Pope from circa 2008.

from the video the sound doesn't seem like it would do well in any kind of heavier act, but I can't be sure that's not just the way you play, so I'd love if you could tell me whether or not bass provides well in in highly percussive playing styles, and if really digging in? because for melodic beautiful playing it seems a winner but... I have a band to drive (; can't run around being nice and solo'y all day :b

Well, they are priced based on the way they are produced- not in mass, handcrafted, in NYC with input from some of the best players in the world. They have premium woods, electronics, and they pay their employees a respectable wage with benefits. So there are many reasons they cost what they do! That being, said, one has to decide if those things are important to you enough to justify the cost, and for many I'm sure they won't be. For me as full time pro, they do. To each his own, by all means.

I rarely had a positive experience with their tone. Often they weren't punchy enough or something, and got too far from traditional bass guitars tones that groove and feel good.

@weeklytoons98 Forget Santa, buy one when you have enough gigs to afford it. If you don't, turn off youtube and go practice! ;)
