To be honest I have no idea which type of weapon is the best for speedrun... but my reason is pretty simple. Because I just thought I wouldn't get enough time or caps to gather those bullets. Also melee weapons are very strong in early stages (because Piercing Strike perk) and the final boss (because Lunar halberd), so it's not so bad in total.
