After He watches,, ~ "Crime Pays but Botany Doesn't " ONCE!! And it's becoming one of the Only Natural History Channels he's got on his KZbin library..... ~Now he's quoting Latin Names at me!! Bracts, Ovaries, Trichomes.. Right down to Mycorrhizae and the relationships going on with Everything!! I was asking myself should I be upset?! Nah~It's Awesome!! (They say Miracles are Dead?!) For 27 years I lived in San Francisco near Ocean Beach and then up the hill from the botanical garden . It’s difficult for non-residents to really get what the climate is like, especially ‘summer’. Chilly, wind whipped dense fog, either at ground level or at about 800 feet all day, day after day. SF can experience a whole week in mid-summer with the temperatures never exceeding 50f something. Luckily I love cool, cloudy weather. I had to leave a few years ago due to how obscenely expensive it got. It used to be a great town with an eclectic mix of people. No more.

Youll get to see wild strawberries, fancy varieties of potatoes, Gaultheria mucronata, and the trees, man... wow! Fitzroya cupressoides, Araucaria araucana (monkey puzzles, typically pictured in dinosaur books and shit). If you EVER come here, you'll have a home where to stay, man! @jonassalk13874 жыл бұрын
Bloom is also used to describe efflorescence on brick and concrete. The connection makes sense, It's got such visual similarly. Farina is a type of grain flour. Also visually similar.
@pansepot14904 жыл бұрын
For plants covered in flour-like white powder the technical term is “farina” eg primula “farinacea”. I think I learned it on this channel. If the white layer is more waxy I’d say “pruina” is a better fit. From Wikipedia: The term pruinosity is also applied for "blooms" on plants, for example on the skin of grapes and also to powderings on the cap and stem of mushrooms, which can be important for identification. It may also be called a pruina (plural: pruinae), using the Latin word which gave rise to the various English terms.
