Foggy Bus Windows?

That glass is a hermetically sealed unit. It will come out as a whole piece also. The inside piece has a glazing tape on the inside. You have to run a thin knife blade around the inside to cut the tape. You can take the whole unit to a residential glass company and they can order you that exact piece. Its just a piece of tempered glass. That means the glass is heat treated so that if it breaks it will break in 1000 little squares so that it won't cut you. Same glass thats in a storm door or entry door or a bathroom window. It is made like that for safety, so it won't break in long shards. Pretty much the same glass thats in the side windows of your car. What you are doing will work for a while if it is a perfect seal. I sell windows to the Tiny House industry. They are required to use tempered glass if it is going to be on the highway. You need to allow about 3 weeks to get the glass unit. Glass has to be cut, then put together and sealed. They can't cut tempered glass. The auto glass industry is really not the place to start.

I drive a school bus that had four windows fog up. CVSE ticketed me on the inspection and it cost $1500 to replace the windows. On a school bus the first few rows(vertical) are double pane to have more layers between the students and possible flying debris on the highway. The windows further back are single pane. The double pane does nothing for insulation of heat/cold or sound but for safety. They really should be bulletproof as we had one of our buses have their window shot out on the side just missing a student. Never did find out who the shooter was.

Hey Bob, on my passenger side window, the inside piece of glass is simply broken out/removed. Now it is just the outside (exterior) glass, but from inside you can't tell, and no fogging. If you try to put it back, it will fog again. I'm not sure if that is what you were planning to do. There is a special gas that is usually between the panes to prevent any moisture when the windows are new, but it leaks out with age and air with moisture is the result. Since our rigs don't have double pane glass on any of the other windows, any thermal loss will not be noticed :-)
