my thermal fuse is blown and heaters both measure 68 ohms. what do you suppose? both elements need replacing and thermal fuse?
@joaomiguellopezramirez579410 жыл бұрын
Hello good, watch my plate I give light and turns and a constant beep and the light will start to Flash and does not heat anything. Now if I warm up a little ceramic with hands or divider works well, creaks a bit a ceramic. As this very cold makes it beep hot works perfectly. I hope that you can solve it, a greeting and thanks!

Check out ghd-repair.co.uk/shop for spare parts. You need to make sure the thermal fuse is in good contact with the heater else it won't do its job. Gary

i replaced the thermal fuse on my partners ghds but only the main plate is heating up/smoking but turned it off before fuse failed... do you think the secondary plate has failed?
@Ghd-repairCoUk2 жыл бұрын
There isn't really a primary and secondary. Just two heaters connected in parallel. If one of them has failed, then the irons won't work properly and the thermal fuse may well be tripped. The heaters should measure 35 ohms when both connected in parallel, or 70 ohms when disconnected. See www.ghd-repair.co.uk for loads of advice on how to fix your irons.

My wife has a pair of GHD 3.1B. When switched on the LED flickers on and off and there is a crackling sound as if something is arcing inside. Is this likely to be a faulty thermal fuse?

Is it possible to repair the eclipse model ?

is the orange tape/plastic part essential? I have replaced my fuse, but no longer have the orange film/plastic. It appears that the fuse is cutting out before they reach optimum temp. I cant measure the temp or voltage, but this is what I think is happening as they cut out before the LED should start flashing.
@Ghd-repairCoUk6 жыл бұрын
The orange kapton tape provides secondary insulation for safety reasons. It is there incase the thermal fuse escapes the potting and touches the metal clip which would make the heater plate live (and therefore dangerous). What model are your GHDs? Does the light go out completely? Have you seen our fault finding guide? www.ghd-repair.co.uk/guides Gary

Hi Trevor I wonder if you can help me I just purchased some 5.0 Jamlia limited edition now they don't turn on and I think thermal fuse has gone are they all the same to change
@Ghd-repairCoUk8 жыл бұрын
Hi Winston, Yes - the method is basically the same for all mk3, mk4 and mk5 models. The only other reason the mk5s would not come on is if the R8 or R11 resistor has gone open circuit. Regards, Gary

Hi Trev, amazing videos, thanks a lot. I'm a little bit noob, and i wonder about this 5.0 unit. First of all i replaced a burned out resistor (around 50Ohm +-), then the unit still was dead. then i saw your videos and got a fresh thermistor and replaced the old one by that new one, then i got only one side of the hair straightener getting hot, and the side of the thermal fuse cold, so i think my thermal fuse is gone as well. My question is, how can i check the thermal fuse before buying a new one? i dont even care about the prize of the thing, it is just that i would love to know how do i check the thermal fuse of that thing, what test should i perform, what reading should i be getting and stuff. Thanks you very much for your videos again, i would have never been to the point where i am now by myself. my electronics level is still low, as you can read here. Thank you very much.

+JuanramÁn Hi, If the light is coming on and they are heating then the thermal fuse is ok. It sounds like you have one broken heater element. You should measure 35ohms when both heaters are connected to the PCB. If you measure 70ohms then one heater is broken. Is the new thermistor reliably glued down to the heater element? This will affect how well the temperature is controlled. Regards, Gary

Grüße, Gary ---- Hi Robert, Have you checked the R8 and R11 resistors? If everything else is ok, then one of those resistor has probably gone open circuit. Regards, Gary

***** Hallo Gary, R8 = 51Om und R11 = 51Om. Grüße Robert

In that case it is probably a failed PIC processor. We sell these on our website, but they are not quite as straightforward to replace as a resistor. Regards, Gary
