The Fokker D.VIII was one of the best planes ever. Very much advanced, especially the wing design.

I love the sound of those old cylinder engines, they actually seem to sing to me, much better sound than a present day jet engine.
@traveller47902 жыл бұрын
Except that is NOT an authentic engine producing an authentic sound of a Fokker D.VIII. They also didn't have electric starters in WWI.
@harryberry474 Жыл бұрын
@@traveller4790 Yep, the original D.VIII had a rotary engine the Oberursel UR.II 110hp, this one uses a more modern radial which is larger and heavier so the engine cowl is larger and the original did not have a tail wheel either but have to forgive these facts because just seeing a replica flying is a pleasure.

I love that plane and that paint scheme is wonderful!

That's a gorgeous plane! 2:08 Looks like it got a little squirrely there on take off

The trailing edge of the spreader bar/wing between the wheels is really close to the ground, definitely wouldn't want to drop a wheel into a rut

That sounds like an electric stsrt radial engine, i thought the D.V111 had a rotary?.

Is this plane, authentic?? It's not a kit, is it?? I'm asking 'cause it seems the wing struts, are missing. I like the contrast @2:45, while viewing a WWl's technology, the modern technology can be heard, in the background 😁!!

I wander what radial engine is in that DV111? Always wanted to build this aircraft with a radial not a rotary .....

I like the colour scheme, would be great for a model, no damn LOZENGE to try to replicate....

I would like to find out information on THIS PLANE ! Is it a kit ? What is the scale ? What engine ? I want one !
@MotionPhotozByLiza Жыл бұрын
It would be best to contact the Military Aviation Museum. They would have all the info.

Does the D.V111 originally use the 160hp Gnome rotary engine from manufacture? It is noticeable this aircraft shown here has a fixed engine casing ie: the prop and the engine are not both spinning together as the one unit. I am really interested to know please what engine type this is, and whether the electric start is from the time of the manufacture of the aircraft, or whether it is a later addition?
@Averagebanger4 ай бұрын
either a Rotec radial or verner i'm guessing

I take this to be an accurate replica with a radial instead of that nasty rotary...!!! Nice project...!!!

Doesn't seem very stable doesn't look like it wants to get airborn never seen a high wing only bis and tris

Why would anyone take a video seriously that featured a Fokker D-8 powered by a radial engine? How monumentally poor and historically inaccurate!
@gdebruin827 жыл бұрын
Tell me Paul, do you happen to have an original 1918 160hp Gnome rotary lying around? If you do, I'm sure they'd love to have it. Perhaps some "props" for their enthusiasm. See what I did there?
@rlb967 жыл бұрын
Forget it Grant. Stupid and ignorant people will always troll videos just to show how stupid and ignorant they are. Speaking of realistic, did you notice that during the takeoff and landing the pilot needed to use a lot of rudder so this beautiful REPLICA of a Fokker D-8 would track straight, just like the original needed. Awesome job of piloting and a great build of this magnificent machine.
@gdebruin827 жыл бұрын
Indeed Bob, he had to uses TONS of rudder back & forth even a bit of aileron too. I'm friends with a local man who's built several D.VIII replicas here in CNY and they fly one at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome regularly during the spring & summer. Always good to see that good craftsmanship is alive & well!

Hey Paul... how many planes have you built? I’m building a Fokker DR.1. Guess what, I’m using a radial too... as well as the rarity of rotary engines, you also need a crew to prep the plane for flight, including starting it... not the most practical way to build flight time in a type.
@bitemykrank19704 жыл бұрын
What ?? Should it have a turboprop and maybe a JATO or two aswell....with a BIG fish hook on the underside for bungee assist on take off for good measure.....
@traveller47902 жыл бұрын
An electric starter on a Fokker D.VIII? Really? The tail wheel was bad enough, but the electric starter absolutely ruins it for me.
