Mica project, I built a home subwoofer in a very close design I developed by myself in 2018. I Used two Audax HM170CO. The subwoofer is 40 cm 50 cm x 70 cm and has to be placed 20 cm out of a corner to be completely a corner horn. Nice video about the building process :-)

Plywood?, shouldn’t it be high density MDF? Less chance of cabinet resonance due to voids in the plywood.
@jjzamo
@jjzamo 3 жыл бұрын
i think mdf on a cabinet this size would have made it too heavy for me but i am interested in an A/B test when i make more. I made sure to get void free plywood and while cutting it down to pieces it seemed to be true to what was advertised
@bwtaudio
@bwtaudio 3 жыл бұрын
No, there's several reasons not to use MDF for P.A. systems. MDF doesn't hold up very well to constantly being moved around and can fall apart with moisture. It's also extremely heavy, especially in a design such as this. Acoustically cabinet resonance in a horn loaded design is not as crucial to the sound because of the way it transforms electrical energy to acoustic energy. Most professional sound system cabinets are built out of Baltic Birch which has excellent build qualities. Also, notice how well braced this design is. All of the panel resonances are well above the passband.

Hey that's fair, I just threw this together for the folks I was building these for and never expected the video to gain any traction. These are bill fitzmaurice tuba-60's, 15" wide with eminence lab 12 drivers. We've built 16 of these to date so it's safe to say we love them. you can run 4 of them off a QSC PLX3102 amp. They are a bit boomy above 100hz, 80-100hz has been the preferred crossover area. We roll them off around 30hz to protect the drivers and they confidently hit down there. the horn is close to 12 ft so your drive rack needs a big time delay range. even if I posted sound it just wouldn't translate well. But one or two of these subs can crush my 2 car garage and would be more than enough for a little club. hope that helps have a good one

@@jjzamo This came up as a random suggestion in my feed. It might be good to give some love to BFM in the title. There's nothing wrong with T60s. From personal experience I can tell you they hold their own in sound quality to any of the other big names.

@@bwtaudio hey i agree, i tried to change the title of the video once it gained some traction but my youtube creator studio seems like it's not fully functional with my browser. i really had just made this video for fun for the folks i was building these cabinets for, never expected anyone else to tune in
