Thanks for tutorial! I have 3 different Corona portables in my collection with a broken draw band and I successfully fixed the first one today after watching your video. For anyone without a full band to compare for length I used 16 inches of 30lb braided fishing line.

You have been a GODSEND already to me even though I have only just begun my journey into typewriter collecting and refurbishment. I have a Corona Type 4 that I picked up in great condition for basically nothing and it came to me with a broken carriage strap. I ordered some 60lb fishing line and it arrived today so will be attempting the replacement today! I was just freshening up on your instructions on this video and a couple others that are similar to my type 4 so that I can feel confident to to do this. Trying to get the courage!! I don't have a lot of hand strength so am afraid of it I guess. Thank you again and I will be back to let you know how I fared in the repair. You are amazing at what you do and I am ever so grateful to you!! Have a great weekend!

This video really demonstrates the cross-generational engineering disciplines and the progressive advancements as well. Illustrative of how the human mind has maintained focus on improvements while still honoring the time proven principle of maintaining efficiency. Another nice video. Not only do you have typewriter repair skills, but also video taking skills. Doing all that at one time with two hands is quite a feat.

Thanks for the input, draw band was easy to do on this typewriter And yes, these folding Corona's are way cool ! Not so user friendly, but they make up for it with the unique design

Thank you so much! I bought one of these a few years ago and promptly got it fixed, although my curiosity got the best of me and in the process of trying to figure out how it had been repaired, I broke it again. I sort of let it be for a few years in storage before coming back to it today, and I don't think I would have been able to do it on my own. But yeah, this video was a life safer.

How to fix Corona typewriter old. On Google and you were the first. Ok so l started to watch it and miracle that issue is what l need it to solve....first. No idea about names and parts so it is going to take a little while to work on it. Issue 1 Fixed l am sooooo happy, issue 2 what type of oil to use the 40 or sewing machine oil ok, the keys are stuck and some do not move very easy or go half way oil l think will help, this is like 100 years and now is moving so l can write kind off. Thank you so much it took me about four hours and it is fantastic.
@phoenixtypewriter21362 жыл бұрын
Mixing new oil with old oil is a recipe for disaster down the road, old oil needs to be flushed out, completely wd40 is not a good oil, it's not even oil..... I use Marvel Mystery Oil Type bars and pivots do not, should not be oiled.

@@phoenixtypewriter2136 thank you so much, i will have to look with calm your videos, i am sure you have something about how to oil the all typewriter if the machine has been setting for at least 30years. i got mine two yeas ago and I was told that was not use for at least 25 years, my brother in law did not know if was or was not working. Just one last comment, i did try to fixed last year but i could not find nothing wrong with it. So l thought i will have to find the person to fix the machine, and today i was cleaning my table and decided to open it, just because i love de sound and by Angel's slook Isaw the thread and not my desk is still a mess other day i will clean it, mean time i just want to enjoy my success...which I couldn't have done without your help.... the rest is history. thank you again. Almost forgot I know the word bar but not pivot and l look and look in internet but still not sure what is it???? do you have a video where you mention the name of the parts of a typewriter???? yes all of them all in and out. thank you.

excellent video... we found a Corona Special with instruction manual in my grandmothers house.. We are thankful you made this video and what a help!! We have string but not sure the length to cut it... a poster used 16" so we will try that as well unless there is an "official" length.. My question is where can we find info on the carrying case it came with? Even if I have to make a new one out of thin Luan and coat it with leather or some other substance, i would like to get the dimensions or pointed to a place where I can find out...

Hi, Really enjoy watching your videos. I had recently bought a Corona golding typewriter, the seller told me the spring is not working. When I was following your video trying to fix my typewriter, I realized the spring drum drops out when I removed the cover. Can you please advice if it is fixable? It would be a pity if this machine only use as display. Thanks.

Well without seeing it, I don't know if parts are just loose or broken or abused Most all things are repairable on these old typewriters

Thank you so much for the video! I just got my own Corona No.3. I’m having trouble actually getting it to fold over. It doesn’t look like anything is blocking it. Is this a common issue?
@phoenixtypewriter21364 жыл бұрын
Yes, these are precision machines, take very little to cause a bind in the mechanism. This is when experience with mechanical engineering and theory of operation help immensely
@gemista5 жыл бұрын
Mine had this problem, but I used the original waxed cord, and I affixed it to the carriage via a piece of wire that I strategically bent into shape instead of the spring, which was missing. In addition, I found it easier to wind the capstan under no spring tension, and once everything was in place, I wound it up using the ratchet on the bottom. It works as good as new now.

Goog Job !! I often do this different ways on these and other brands and models too.

Great video, thank you. What other reasons could there be for the carriage not moving?
@phoenixtypewriter21367 жыл бұрын
Does it move with carriage release lever ? Spaceber ? Typebars ? Backspace ? lots of things can impede movement, escapement ? Dropped/bent ?

Love your videos! They are so informative and interesting. Please tell me how you got to old string out of the mainspring!
@phoenixtypewriter213620 күн бұрын
Not sure I had to on this one, but winding tension will move the internal spring away from the edge to allow some access, that main spring can be removed and the plates separated to get internal access too

@@phoenixtypewriter2136 I didn’t dare it. Got the knot into that cylinder and counted blessings because the carriage worked agin. I am so glad you have the same little Hemingway typewriter because you give such great advice. Mine is named ‘Hadley.’

Thank you so much for your video - very informative and helpful. Do you mind if I ask a question? I have the same machine and it was working fine until I have it shipped when I moved to another country. For some reason, the carriage is now stuck if I type but releases only when I press the carriage release. Do you think it's a small problem that I can fix myself? I did try "fixing" it but to no avail, as I'm not familiar with the typewriter mechanism in general. Would you mind telling me what could possibly be the problem and maybe I can search for a youtube video on how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!!!

Wouldn't know where to start . . . . Shipping machines can cause many different things To get out of wack ! No single answer is right, look for binds, impediments etc . . . .

The spring on the carriage lock hook on the left side of the carriage can get stretched on these. Replace it and it will allow it to spring back

Thanks for all your videos Dwayne. I have learned a great deal from you. My question is not about this particular repair but about the keys on these old machines. I notice that most old machine have yellow colored keys. Is this because the keys have yellowed over the years. And if so were the keys originally white. ? Thanks again and I hope you keep posting videos. Lots to learn about these great old machines. Steve
