Mairead Phelan is the finest addition to Solas in so long. At least for the singers that is. She truly fits the ever evolving sound that they keep producing.

I ran into John Doyle in a coffee shop several years back and gave him a good chuckle when I told him he kicked Dáithí Sproule's (Traditional Irish guitarist extraordinaire) arse. Karan is indeed a "little wee fairy" who has blossomed on her own solo stuff as Solas continues to disappoint me with each new release and incarnation/line-up.

Seamus, Winnie & Mick will always be the foundation of Solas, however will never be the same since Karan left the band. But I must say the harmonies betwxit Mairead & Eamon are quite something. Great performance.

I would add John Doyle to the never be the same list. As for Karen she was so dynamic in her range of emotions Solas could cover a lot of territory. In reality she is a little wee fairy, with a soft spoken voice, but she could bring on the sadness, excitement, anger, playfulness and then go back to sweet. Mairead has the sweet going on, but lacks the gritty. Just an observation as I still enjoy her work. Have not really heard the new singer, but I will miss Mairead.
