I’ve become a night auditor over the past 3 months at a Marriott hotel. Running the reports is the easiest part of the job, you’re typically the only employee in the building unless your a full service hotel. Very low stress and you get to pick up a hobby while your work! I’ve started a small business selling stuff on eBay during my free time! Great pay and experience for a resume. Granted my social life barely exist but I also find I have no issues with anyone and I’ve very grateful for my off days!

I love the role as night auditor. At my hotel I have to do laundry, which is kind of a buzz kill. One, I suck at it lol Two, I've been given more admin/marketing work, but still need to make sure my laundry gets done. So, it pretty much turned my laid back, low stress job, into...well...not lol That has been my experience, I'd be hard-pressed to think you will have the same. The night auditor job itself tho, is pretty good. It's pretty laid back, you don't need to have any accounting experience, despite "auditor" being in the name. lol I dunno if you've done overnights before, but they can take getting use to, and what works for some might not work for others. The only way I seem to be able to handle it was to flip my schedule right around, so whats 12 noon for normal people, is midnight for me. I also keep my routine on my days off as well. If I don't it throws me off for most of the week, but some times it can't be helped. Again, everyone's different, but this has been my experience. I just realized this was posted a week ago, sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Hows it going? What do you think of it?

I honeslty rub my reports before 2:30 , then check all 6 floors . I chill and sit down between 2:30-4am. Since nobody is checking in . Then I start the grits or oatmeal for breakfast . I’m thinking about becoming a night auditor soon. I am just worried about my security. I’ve probably watched too many crime shows, but I’m scared about delivering items to guests rooms at night. Any tips on how to stay safe? I’d for sure carry pepper spray with me 24/7. I think I’d feel a little scared being alone, and maybe I’m overthinking it too. Also, I’m worried about how I’ll adjust to working nights. I am a mom to a toddler and I really don’t know how I’ll do it, but I’ll have to figure it out.
@TheJaiNetwork2 жыл бұрын
Try to ask guests to come down for items. Only go up if they are really adamant about not coming down and leave items in a bag outside their rooms. If there is an urgent maintenance issue in a room offer to either move the room or if sold out offer to have it fixed first thing in the morning. If it’s a toilet issue and sold out you can offer a plunger or offer for them to use a public bathroom until the morning when more staff comes in or another room becomes available. Try to never go in a guest room when alone. Think outside the box as you are basically the manager on duty and the security guard for yourself and other guests

Very informative. Seems like night auditor is a great position to have. But I have to say, as a father I would be doing extra duty praying if my daughter was working night shift at a hotel !! Is there any type of security that's there for you if needed ?
@anaaraiza513 жыл бұрын
No security, unless it's a super fancy, over the top hotel maybe. But in the hotels for the common folk, no. We night auditors switch hats throughout the shift. So, I am my own bodyguard, LOL. You can always call the police if you see suspicious activity or feel unsafe. The area I work in is safe, but in bigger cities with high crime rates, I would not work nights.

Each hotel may run their security services differently. It’s a valid question to ask at the interview. And basically your daughter would also be a key person that guest will be looking to for answers to when an emergency occurs from fire, earthquake, health related, and active shooter situations. She needs to be tough and always prepared.

What scares me is getting killed or hurt at night by either a robber or a drunk or drug addict other than that this job would be perfect for me.

Work at a 1600 room property, we have a GSM, Night Audit, 2 Front Desk Agents and 1 hotel operator, not to mention Room Service, Security, and a Bellman and Doorman on till Midnight. Our Night Audit works off a schedule with the GSM, each has their own work to do and it keeps both very busy. The first bellman at 4:00 am used to deliver all the notices with Security. Now there is automatic check out and we don’t deliver anything. This was all before COVID 19. With 37 years hotel experience, I got a call today saying that my job and our entire staff was eliminated. I no longer work for the company and I’m pretty sad about it. Do you still work Night Audit? Seems like a lot of work to do for one person. All the best!

Wow! You run your audit between midnight and 1:00? I have to hold off on mine to at least 3:00. I wait until 12:00 for any last stragglers and any walk-ins, and then I start my bucket check. And Lord knows a day shift GSA didnt balance, so I have to run through their work to see what happened. Once I feel that I have everything balanced, and mopped the lobby :( , and maybe even did a few loads of laundry, I will change the day and run audit.

I have a question. So when you do start your night auditig process, and let’s say you start at 1am, you still have 1 reservation that’s suppose to show up, no call from them, so you assume they’re not coming in. So you cancel it and start the night audit process, but they end up coming in anyways but you’re starting the auditing process for the next day, what do you do then? I have an interview for a night audit shift and I’m scared of doing something wrong. I was working front desk for a hotel before 2nd shift but I left the job because it was extremely difficult for me to understand and overwhelming. But I’m trying it again, this time for night audit. Any tips?
@boxcoblue5 жыл бұрын
It can vary what you do depending on the hotel but a good thing to know if that there is really nothing you can do wrong in the hotel world that can not get fixed in some way. To answer your question usually the computer system knows that person did not show up and puts them as a no show. If they do end up showing after the audit, which is common then you just check them in as normal and put the days as 0 since they will be leaving that same day.
@shaym31405 жыл бұрын
Trying to live my best life Oh okay, thank you for the reply! Were you overwhelmed when you first started the hotel industry? I’m not sure why but I’m insanely stressed and overwhelmed to start in the hotel world again. I just want to understand the system so I can feel confident in the job.

Every hotel is different and so their system, once you start at any job you learn from 0, so don't worry, it only takes time and patience to get used to everything and still you can make mistakes, don't put to much pressure on yourself and work hard, you'll be fine!

How do you manage your sleep schedule?
@Dubbudha4 жыл бұрын
It depends on many aspects..size of your household, climate, lengths of the day and so on. I tend to go to bed shortly after work in summer. Mainly because it is easier to fall asleep as it is a bit colder. In winter I stay awake longer after work. Otherwise I wouldn't see much daylight as it is getting dark that early.
