The only thing I like about hitting a CON is the ability to meet writers & artists and get a book signed. Sadly, it seems like comics are taking back seat to everything else at NYCC & SDCC.
@Nerdzoic3 жыл бұрын
Truly is another great reason to visit cons. The artists are very talented and exactly right-get something autographed by the writer or illustrator. I'm sure they won't take a back seat for long. Many of the lines and loves of action figures come from comics-I don't see them dying.

REALLY important point - this is all very detailed an excellent info regarding getting stuff signed, & you've mentioned a ton of hacks to avoid disaster. BUT, if you're gonna recommend PAINT PENS, MAKE SURE you tell people to let that shit DRY before you try to slide it into a sleeve, a case, or tuck it in their bag. Wave it around for 20 seconds, blow on it, whatever. You will DESTROY your signature if you try to put it in a sleeve too fast.

I met Roddy Piper for free at a convention a few months before he passed away. I barely had money at the time and asked for permission from his manager/aide just to say hello. They said no at first but Roddy turned and told it was ok. My big regret is not having saved enough and going into a con broke. You never know when or if you’ll have that opportunity again. The Carrie Fisher story reminded me of this.
@Nerdzoic3 жыл бұрын
Seems like Roddy was definitely a nice guy and didn't let the fame make him too good to meet a fan. It can certainly be a struggle to have enough saved and ready for a con. Thank you for watching the video and sharing your story.

All amazing tips. My personal addition would be to bring a portable stool for sitting when no other seating is available. It doesn't need to be a full chair, just something compact enough to fit in your backpack. These are particularly great when in lineups. I got one at the Dollar Store and it has come with me around the world.

That "Look Low" tip is HUGE. The "floor boxes when you are Looking for figure accessories or "junkers" for repairs is super key. Case in point, found ALL missles for one of my GI Joe vehicles at the last con I went to. Also found a sweet Ric Flair figure for my desk decor at work too. WOOOOO!

When I go to cons(sci-fi, comic, anime, etc), I bring my own food and water. Some cons won't allow outside food pending on which con you go. Check their website in advance before you go. I only go to toy, comic and sci-fi for one day only, unless if there's going to be a special actor/actress then book my hotel(I only book one for anime because it's held but once a year). I also bring some extra figures to get some autographed, but I check online first to see how much it costs to autograph and/or if he/she is going to attend. Sometimes they could cancel at the last minute. Also, be aware when you see booth dealers try to sell an autographed item, they just want your money. When trading figures, ask first before you do. Some won't take any because they also have them and theirs trying to sell, or not interested. And, yes shop around, compare prices, negotiate, and try asking if you can bundle some figures for one price. Also, if you can't get it, don't worry, there will be other conventions in the future.

it took me a while to realize that i hate everything about conventions, celebrity worship, human interaction, overpriced stuff, exclusives, it's hot, it smells, it is cramped

sidenote: lol about budget, i'd have to save up for 2 years to even go to a bigger convention let alone hotels and buying stuff and food

What are “tolls”? (Chuckling): we have freeways in the west. No slowing us down to pay tolls.

I miss conventions. Going back in the fall. I am on the other side of the table now, but it's just great to be back. If you're ever at a convention and you see a Guerrilla Publishing booth, stop by and say what up.

I will definitely stop by Ben. I am glad they're back in action too. I have greatly missed conventions. Thanks for watching.
