The band was SO proud of this Album when it dropped Alex😂. You'd think they created Sgt Pepper's or Pet sounds. That said Losing my Religion was great and esoteric as a lead single. Near wild Heaven Should've been the follow up though. Complete with the crossover publicity of Kate Pierson on backup vocals and in the video. It would've of been more huge and less maligned than "Shiny ..." Imo.

Belong and Low are songs that were written while on the Green tour and they performed it on that tour. They are both very much slow burners. For me, I think Near Wild Heaven, Texarkana, Half A World Away are my favorite album tracks. I'm a weird one in that years and years later I've come to love Shiny Happy People again, it is the 3/4 halftime breakdowns that really make me appreciate it more. And the riff is fucking infectious. Plus, Kate Pierson's vocals are divine. It's another brilliantly made pop song in my mind, the dip-dip-di-dip-dip background vocal line, it all makes it so head and shoulders above Pop Song 89, which to me is probably the front runner in pop REM songs prior. I don't think of End of the World as a pop song, it is too frenetic. Superman is a cover so I guess I dismiss that one. The rest of LRP are scorchers to me, no real pop songs. Can't Get There From Here is probably one of the only other pop songs besides maybe We Walk? IDK, I digress. Yes, Me In Honey is repetitive, but so many other great songs in the world are too. I just love Stipe singing love songs, I guess? Losing My Religion broke them HUUUUUUUGGGGGEEEEE. I think you have no idea how huge that song was in 1991. There is a reason for 1 Billion views, and that's why. It made them a household name. Which later, made every used CD bin have a CD with an orange cover with an unfocused bear photo on it in the bin for like $3. I still think you should review Monster, BTW. And the band was 100% serious about Radio Song, KRS-One was a serious rapper, from a serious group. They performed the song on MTV Unplugged, without KRS-One. It was interesting, lol. Just found someone who posted the whole Unplugged, albeit from another country, so it is called "Acoustico" - It's not the best recording for sure but you can see how great they were at the time, performing these songs. It kicks off with a great version of Half a World Away. Then a spirited Disturbance at the Heron House. The aforementioned Radio Song is next, and it is interesting acoustic, NGL. There are plenty of highlights on this. Worth a watch and listen. A shame they took the album made up of both of the REM Unplugged sessions off Spotify.

Interested to know, what albums in your collection or that you've listened to would you give 10 out of 10?

Very very few, actually. Most of my all time favorite albums have a few speedbumps here and there in them. I would say In Rainbows by Radiohead, Teen Dream by Beach House, and The Queen is Dead by The Smiths would be my picks where the sheer amount of great tracks overshadow any slight faults for me.

Interesting that you gave Losing my Religion a higher score than Half a World Away especially considering your comments. No idea why they didn’t have Here I Am Again on this album. There are at least a good 3 or 4 I’d have no issue swapping out.

That’s a good point. I think I may have not given the ratings a proper updating after relistening for the follow up. I’d say I probably like it on a similar level as LMR or maybe slightly more, for various reasons.
