Ellsworth Kelly is know for his abstract paintings that look almost to simple. The more you look at them they become more interesting. A little extra information about them helps too. In this Paint Like Ellsworth Kelly I show you how I paint like him but also show you how important it is to follow your heart when making art. It doesn’t have too appeal to others, but please do what you love. Just like Ellsworth Kelly did. Please do watch the TED talk of Ethan Hawk about creativity. Enjoy.

Materials
The art materials I use in the videos are not sponsored.
I prefer to work on multi-purpose paper, more info in this video: • How to choose the RIGH... In almost all my videos I use with Winsor&Newton Galeria acrylics, if not, I will say so in the video. Other materials I use are in random order: 5, 10 and 40mm brushes, palette knives, acrylics medium, Ecoline liquid watercolor, Lyra color pencils, Lyra soft pastels, oil pastels, Stabilo color pencils, paper palette pad and basic masking tape. I also use household items like a permanent marker, scrub sponge, scissors, paper towel, and so on.

I first encountered abstract art ‘little bit more deeply’ when I bought a book ‘After Modern Art’ by D.Hopkins bc there I for the first time discovered Abstract expressionism and was blown away with it.. and art and philosophy of J.Dubuffet encouraged me to go bravely ahead with my artistic pursuits:)) Growing up, and lived, in Eastern Europe, art always had to have some ‘meaning’, and avant-garde then was art with ‘meaning against that meaning’ :)) Freedom and coolness and play and fun was kind of absent for me there and I’m very grateful I bought that book. Your videos are amazingly done, edited and you truly mastered to bring abstract art to a ‘broader’ audience and let us with so much inspiration and new discoveries. 👏🙂

Hi Paneko1, thanks and thanks for sharing your story and I can relate to it in a way. I learned about abstract art and how to look at it later in life. It brought me so much enjoyment, just by looking at it, wondering what, why and how. I now try to share what I see and hope others learn to enjoy it too. There is such richness in abstract, even when a piece has just one color. Mindblowing 😊 Happy (abstract) painting, Albert

Hallo Ellen, bedankt. Heel permissievol. Ik ben hem dankbaar. Fijne dag verder, Albert

@@ImperfectPaintings Thank you for your encouragement. Could you possibly advise me about a good paper to use please. Oh and what you use for thinning acrylics in addition to water, which I'm guessing you don't do on paper. I already have a lot of paints that somebody gave me. Thanks Albert.
@ImperfectPaintings
@ImperfectPaintings 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Clarence, I use acrylic medium gloss (diluted 3 or 4 parts water and 1 part medium, mixed in an old water bottle). to mix with acrylics to get thinner paint layers. You will see me use it in several videos. I bought a squeeze bottle to keep it for later use. The paper is more difficult. I advice to visit a local art supply store and ask for multi-use paper (drawing, oil pastels or acrylics) 200 grams with a smooth surface. I can't seem to find the right words to describe what I use to people abroad. Every country seems to use it's own technical words. Good luck. Can you let me know what the correct terms are after your hunt for paper? Hope this helps. Albert

@@ImperfectPaintings Hi Albert. Thank you. I'm not keen on going out more than a cautious walk around the park at the moment, so I had a look on eBay in the end. I've ordered the two following papers for comparison... though I'm sure that both papers will be better than the painter 🙄. I've ordered some medium too, though I realised that it's matt after I'd ordered it. I've dabbled in exploring shape and colour in the past without really getting the bug, but at the ripe old age of 70 I suddenly find that I want to do something everyday. So, I've been making cards using blanks that I've had for years, and also in a book of 100gsm cartridge paper... all with markers. I'm really looking forward to trying some of the 'Paint like' ideas from your videos. Some of the artists I knew about, but you've introduced me other really interesting ones. Sorry, I'm rambling on... it's a tendency I have! Anyway, thanks again. Oh, I'm not really sure about any other terms. You explain everything so well. I'll tell you about my one attempt to speak Dutch sometime... humiliation! A3 Bristol Paper Canson extra smooth surface pad 250gsm and Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylic Paper Pad 300g A3. Hi KaCeyKal, now I understand. The links are the same under all the videos. I always tell in the video what I use, it was getting complicated to change the list every time. The paper is more difficult to explain. It is multipurpose paper 200 grams, 50x65 cm. I don't use water on it, it would ruin the surface. Best you ask iin your local art supplies store for paper to paint on. Buy a few sheets and see what works for you. Hope this helps, Albert Albert

When I walk with friends or partner, all of a sudden I notice some interesting things then I will stop and take a picture. But people around me sometimes feel I am bit crazy . "it's just a shadow!" they say. And many people think art is useless(can't bring money) so they are less likely to understand why I do the thing which doesn't bring financial benefit, it sounds naive to them. And it bothers me. Sometimes I have to hide the fact that I like art.

Hi Lolli, thanks for sharing your story. You've seen some videos and by now you probably notice I see beauty in anything. Especially Elsworth Kelly is an artist who also looks at the world like you and me, or we like him. Please keep looking and taking pictures. People who don't understand your why or are laughing about you, it's their loss. In my opinion it's a way to train your eye for detail. Art is never about money, it's about expressing yourself.
