Being suspicious or dressing differently or speaking differently or taking notes on a piece of plastic is not against the law or being rude. We have a right to go about our lawful business. The security guards can certainly ask what he was doing but should accept any answer and walk away. They do not have the right to discriminate one person because he is different. The auditor was told to leave because he was taking notes. Any sensible person would find that unjust. What if the security guard thought a person was Jewish? He would not have the right to discriminate against him. The same applies to any other reason. Just because it not written into law is not a reason to discriminate against someone.

If you've got to do everything by the letter of the law. The man wasn't arrested at any point and the police weren't called so no rights were impinged and the security did their job.
