Way to stay after them. You are so right about learning what a certain pack will do. I have been trying to trap a pack for two years and slowly learning the places they like to cross, hunt etc. Had several near misses with snares. Foot holds are tough to keep going with our freeze/thaw snow here. Good luck and thank you for doing your part to keep their numbers down. Sure helps the moose calves survive their first year.

Brother, set your bait pile somewhere you know they are. Then set your snares/traps 50-75 yards away from your bait. Wolves never come straight to the bait… they come in like a wagon wheel… the spokes of a wagon wheel is how they diverge on a bait or kill because they’ve had millions of years of lessons knowing free food isn’t always free. If you set too close to your bait pile, you will miss wolves. But the further you get away & set, your success rate will climb. If you have any elevations like a hill, going up/down a slope, set your snares on the hill because Wolves don’t typically pay much attention when they’re coming down a hill, or up… don’t ask me how I know this but rather just have learned over the years. Best of luck & stay safe out there!!!

Been more times than I can count them grouse jump up beside me and make me about pee me pants lol. Love the sound of that snow, a guy could keep a foothold working in them conditions. Stay after it bud. Great content

Hahahahahah right!?!? I've actually walked into 2 Wolves before walking on a trail & my instinct was to raise my firearm & shoot... so its funny how Grouse can scare the piss out of you, yet you see a Wolf & its automatically "shoot it" LOL! Was a cold one that day, as you can "hear" by the snow crunchy-ness! Warming up now - I hope to get out a handful more to do some calling & maybe get them howling back at me, we will see!

I visited Red Lake back in September 1975. I went to see a friend of mine at the fire center. I declined the opportunity to climb the fire tower. Got some fishing in at the lake when we stayed on a small island. The northern pike that I caught scared the crap out of me. It was huge. Take care and stay safe. From: Petawawa. Ontario.

I was hunting a pack last week here in Montana, and I followed the tracks, and they had dug up a black bear and ate it. That's the first time I've ever seen that
@PatterningNature Жыл бұрын
I've only seen that once in my lifetime so far! North of us, near the First Nation Territory of Pikangikum that happened - Wolves dug up a Bear den, yanked it out & totally ripped it apart. Only thing left was the head & an arm - just a nutty sight to see!

Get off the couch is what I say. You cant catch a wolf on the couch! Your odds are better if you set one trap. Odds get better if you set more! Wolf trapping and hunting can hurt a guys feelings. The goods trappers and hunters have thick skin and enjoy the epic marathon of pursuing wolves. Good video. I see the gratitude and no bad attitude. Thanks

I'm just thinking about getting back into snowmobiling and was wondering what brand and model your helmet is . Looks like it works well in the extreme cold ?
@PatterningNature Жыл бұрын
Oh goodness, it's just a very affordable off-brand motorcycle helmet LOL There isn't even a brand nane labeled on it to give you - sorry, Robert. It isn't meant for snowmobiling or winter - but with a full face & neck balaclava, plus a BUFF neck warmer & then add on a thicker 2nd neck warmer you're golden 😄 Some folks just wear open face helmets with goggles but I think my cheeks would freeze off going 50km/hr down the lake in -40 LOL

In the USA you can carry a handgun on your Sled.. Maybe some Bear Spray. Commiada
@PatterningNature Жыл бұрын
Oh man, I wish we could do the same here. Some trappers are allowed to carry a specific caliber handgun on their trap line but other than that, you have to be law enforcement & working on-duty to legally carry a handgun. I don’t leave the house without my rifle or shotgun, because either I’m hunting whatever is in season, or target practicing out in the bush - it’s a tool that I’ll always carry next to my multi tool, knife & axe/saw!
@mikeskidmore6754 Жыл бұрын
@@PatterningNature I commuted when I thought they were snowmobilers. Actually they are Trappers or Hunters using a snowmobile for Transporation. I Noticed later in he Video that they are at least carrying a Long Gun. In the USA they are trying to Ban Military style Rifles.. If they get them banned , next they will go after Hunting Rifles by calling them Sniper Rifles. They say you have a better chance to survive a Bear Attack with Bear Spray .. as it takes a Bear 2 minutes to bleed out after you shoot them and they can kill you in that two minutes. I would prefer to have both Bear Spray and a 44 Mag hand Gun
