Not too long ago, my husband cringed when President Oaks spoke of the 3 degrees. He has felt like new members don't need to know those things, but I believe everyone needs to know it. I have had that moment with the name of the Church and 2 hour church for those who don't have strong foundations in the Gospel. But I have stuck with the prophet... and have been repenting of those moments. Thanks for providing the words that I need for those helping others realize that if we believe the Lord is guiding His prophets, then we need to pray for our own witness of the truths. And also to go with it until we gain that personal witness. And also to apply the same principle down to stake and local leaders.

The three of you together doing a podcast is amazing. I loved it. When you talked about riches and people acknowledging everything they have comes from God, it reminded me of the day I was teaching 4 year olds in Primary. I was trying to help the children understand what God has given them. I asked, can you think of anything that doesn’t come from God? One little girl let out a big sighs and said, “He doesn’t give us unicorns.” Once again I know my 4 year olds may have missed the point.

So much food for thought. How sad think about just how easy it is today to "stone" a prophet. How easy it is to replace a Prophet with others who's motives are not pure and for our benefit. Thank you for these words of wisdom.

I love your post cast and listen to it at lest 3 times a week trying to pick up on any extra wisdom. But when I saw S. Dew was the guest my heart groaned and I wanted to skip it this week. When I was a teenager my mom loved S. Dew. My mom would listen to anything Sheri Dew over and over and over. It drove me crazy. Ever so much that I have avoided anything with S. Dew even up until my late 40's. A few days into the week and I really began to miss listening. Grudgingly I turned it one and started to listen. It did not take long and my teenage dis-taste melted away. I loved the way she spoke about our past and current Prophets and how she spoke about our Savor, and all the love she had for them. I am so grateful you brought S. Dew on the pod cast. I am happy to say my teenage dislike for S. Dew is gone and I look forward to hearing from her again. Thank you so much for all you do to help bring the gospel light in to our every day life.

@18:40 One of the greatest evidences to me that the focus on the correct name of the Church was inspired is the reaction from social media influencers. It used to be difficult to discern on first glance between a faithful social media account and an anti account. But now, all of the faithful members have changed the names of their podcasts, KZbin channels, etc. But the antis have doubled down on the name Mormon! You even see it with that new Hulu show. It has made it so much more obvious which influencers, for lack of a better word, are trying to promote faith and which are trying to destroy it.

We have been tould before to pray about the things we have questions about. We have been counciled to learn to hear Him. If we would do these things it would make a big difference. Perhaps when others complain we could ask more often - have you prayed about it. We have lately heard from our Chruch leaders that we need to take responsibility for our own Testament - and suddenly all those old Primary Q&A's are important ones again. 😊

50:00 Revelation 12:10 "accuser of our brethren ... which accused them before our God day and night". Read the verse in it's entirety... and see what will happen to the accuser. I link Rev 12:10 to a great many versus when it speaks of tearing down the prophets and apostles (Helaman 13:24-29 is one example). And I remember it when people, especially members of the Church, tear down the apostles, because these people dont like their messages. Which messages always seem to point me to God and Christ and to live better by Christ's example. Prophets aren't popular.

Was Samuel a leader from the "established" Nephite church? Did he possess "keys"? Did the Nephite church leaders send him? I don't think they did, especially considering they didn't even write his words down and were chastised several years after the fact by the Savior himself. Samuel was taught by an angel and came to preach to both "members" and "non-members" in Zarahemla. There was already a "prophet" in Zarahemla, and yet this outsider shows up and tells them ALL to repent and prepare for the coming of the Lord. I wonder how our current leaders would react to such an outsider? I am not making any accusations and I'm not tearing anyone down. I only want to point out that it is the duty of every member to "test and try" every word and seek confirmation of the Spirit. Our own brethren have taught this principle. Blindly following men and the arm of flesh will not save you. We follow Christ, not a church. I agree, we should rejoice and heed every message that points us to Christ.

You have to understand that no one is perfect, and it’s important to pray and ask the Lord if the teachings of the Brotheren are true, but it is wrong that we taunt the teachings of the Brotheren before we ask the Lord if it’s true or not

Regarding the link between the love of riches and stoning prophets, in the Law of Moses one could be stoned for blasphemy against God. In Satan’s counterfeit and carnal religion, one can be stoned for speaking against one of his most influential and insidious weapons - the love of riches.

Would l go into someone's home and not keep their rules of no smoking in the house. Why should we expect God not to have rules. He even allows us to be in the kingdom and level we are comfortable in. If we want the highest then keep those covenants.

Thank you for your podcast. I find it very helpful. However, I have to push back a bit on this week's lesson. I found it extremely ironic that the lesson on Samuel was used as a 2-hour advertisement for general conference. I am not casting "stones" at our church leaders. I only want to point out that your message was confusing. All 3 of you spent the majority of the time asking things like "are there more qualified voices you can follow?" in reference to our church leaders. But then John would say things like "eyes on the Savior". Who do we follow? Who do we worship? Your podcast name answers this question. We follow Christ. We follow the Spirit. So, to use a phrase you used, I will "cherry pick". Why? You said it yourselves. The brethren are men. They are fallible. You can find hundreds of quotes from the brethren encouraging the saints to "test and prove" their words. We are to challenge everything and seek the confirmation of the Holy Spirit. We do not blindly follow these men. For example, Paul chastised Peter several times. Which of them was right? Peter was given authority by Christ. But Paul was also given authority by Christ. Why didn't Peter give Paul his authority? Wasn't there already a prophet on the earth? Another example, you praised President Nelson for his response to COVID. But I prayerfully considered COVID measures and the Spirit whispered to me that these measures were not good. My employer mandated that I get the vaccine. I prayerfully considered it and the Spirit declared to me not to take it. I almost lost my job. I submitted a religious waiver request saying that the Lord had told me not to violate the sanctity of my temple with an experimental drug. Meanwhile, my "prophet" is advocating me (not commanding me) to get it. I respect and sustain President Nelson, but I could not follow that counsel because it contradicted the guidance I had personally received from my own inquiries. You mentioned that prophets are not popular. But, during COVID, the popular thing to do was to not question, just accept the expert advise, put on your mask, get your vaccine, don't ask questions. The UNpopular thing to do was what I did. I'm not saying that makes me right. I'm simply saying that our prophet did not do the unpopular thing, he echoed the popular consensus. More importantly, unpopular/popular ≠ truth. Truth comes from God. It is taught by the Spirit. We must not become like the Pharisees who were so convinced of their own authority and keys that they reject the very object of their worship. We cannot simply rely on our priesthood lineage through Joseph, else we become like the Catholics trusting in the arm of flesh and the authority of a pope. Joseph taught us that authority comes through righteousness and diligent inquiry. Prophets are sent by God and by angels and don't always come from "inside" the establishment. In fact, they are usually outsiders. I will listen to our leaders in Oct. I will challenge every word with scripture, meditation and prayer. I will heed all that which is prophetic as confirmed by the Holy Ghost. As Elder Bednar teaches, I will be an agent and not an object.
@sionemataele7900Ай бұрын
You need to understand how sister Dew used the phrase cherry picking, she was explaining that’s how people would ended up doing if church leaders are not perfect and they make mistakes, then they just cherry picking which commandments that they want to follow, of these church leaders are not perfect, President Holland talked about it, but when it comes down to follow someone, I would follow the church leaders even though I know that they are not perfect, but I know that they are DISCIPLES OF CHRIST, instead of following someone else or myself, it would be a big mistake
